Exclamation AHHHHH!!!! Smoke everywhere!!!!!

Yeah, just got the 79 Turbo Rx7 back today from having the exhaust done. Here's the problem: At first it was smoking like crazy because the last engine that was in it was leaking an insane amount of oil into the exhaust, so naturally, the exhaust was filled with oil, which we mostly burned off. At first, after the first mile of driving, (and covering the ENTIRE highway with an INSANE cloud of smoke!!!!!), there was a coat of oil in the tailpipes. Then, by the time we got back home, the smoke wasn't nearly as bad, and I checked it again and now it's just a THICK layer of soot!! Obviously it's running insanely rich!! The question is: how rich can it possibly be running considering the fact that it's still smoking???--(ratio-wise) By smoking, I mean that the smoke trail from the pipes travels about 30 feet or so before dissipating!!! BTW, it's not burning coolant. Oh yeah, both the engine and turbo are new.
Comments???
Gestures???

Yep, sounds like burning oil.

Take the downpipe off and pour some Castrol Super Clean or other strong de-greaser down the exhaust pipe to clean it out?

I hate to sound ignorant, but what does "BTW" stand for? I've tried and tried, but cannot figure it out.

I hate to sound like the machine may be in a sad state but a worn apex seal can give a mega smoke screen until the engine has been at operating temperature for a few minutes.

Could it be getting low on compression. I don't know much about turbo setups yet as I run an N/A 12A car but this could be worth investigating.

If so tear the motor down before it wrecks a good rotor and housing, they will still make good power with a worn seal and probably go for a while, but it isn't worth it to blow the motor.

I have had some bad motors and out of two teardowns I only had enough good parts for one complete motor.

I hope it isn't apex seal related

worn apex seal won't give you smoke, but a leaky dowel o-ring or rotor oil seal will.

It was the turbo!! It wasn't worn or anything, it was the oil feed line. Wayy too much pressure going to the turbo. So, it's being re-routed curently, aswell asthe return line-----it was getting backed up, resulting in the oil coming out of the bearings and spewing into the exhaust.

What a great drive... driving down Broad St., and EVERY car behind me stopping, and coughing their brains out.

I want another junk motor so I can do it again!
