85 SE or 84 GSL?

Just looking for some opinions, can't decide which one to get but I'm leaning towards the '84...or maybe the '85! So undecided!

'85 SE, 95k miles, stock, original paint (looks great), clean, minor dings/dents, 4th owner, everything works no issue car, $9.5k
or
'84 GSL, 65k miles, stock, original paint (looks great), clean, minor dings/dents, original owner, everything works no issue car, $5k

I would really like to have a car I can enjoy that will hold its value down the road should I decide to sell it.

The SE may have a lot more surprises in store on it considering theres been 4 owners and who knows how many hands have "fixed" it over the years.

The GSL sounds like a gem, one owner and the price is so right. I'd go for the 84, but I like 12As.

Okay. So you're doing the "grown up"-thing. Is it correct to assume that that means no mods as well?

I would say get the '84 if you plan to drive it - you've got about 30k to reach where the SE is now (for almost half the price), and the only thing you're really missing are a 13B and brakes.

If you're not planning to drive it much, and basically just want to sit on it for a while, then get the SE - because I would imagine the 13B and brakes will likely keep them as "highly" desirable for those that choose to "collect" in the future.

On a complete sidenote, I didn't realize that SEs were fetching those prices. Wow.

For $ 9500 that would need to be a very clean SE,would be better if it was 1st,2nd owner. Agree with TG,car likely has an unknown history...
Though i would side with the SE for more power,GSL would get the nod. For $5k it better be clean.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate it. The SE would be nice, but I think the GSL is the way to go. Beside, I have 2 13b motors/trans that I can swap in should I ever want to. Not to mention most of all the parts I have are for the 12a/4x110 cars!

However, if anyone comes across a clean GLS or SE or widebody or Ultima (convertible) let me know!

I'll keep you guys posted on what I end up getting.

I think he SE is overpriced given the owner history and the higher miles. I would feel more comfortable around 5k on a car like that to be honest.

With regards to the GSL, I feel as though its priced fairly and that the car would be a great buy given the lower mileage and being purchased from the original owner. To me, buying from the original owner is always the best purchase as the complete history of the car is right there in front of you. Would love to see pictures of the car to be honest!!

I'd lean towards the 1984 GSL. One owner, lower miles. Good price.
Would like to know where they are, where and when they have been driven, and that is easier to discover from the original owner. Also go over maintenance records.
If you plan to keep it for the long term, I think stock is important.
The only thing you are missing is the more horsepower of the 13b engine. I think the 1984 GSL has rear disc brakes and the limited slip diff (lsd, 'db1') if that's important to you.

I'll post pictures after the purchase, just in case someone looking at this thread snags it from under me! lol

On a side note, I think I might be able to get the SE for 9k. Still more than I'd like but still a clean car. Owner has owned it for 8 years and put 1200 miles during his ownership. Vehicle report is clean.
