79 not starting

OK i got a 79 rx, when i bought it it said timing was off. turned out one of the points was out of adujustment, I fixed this, cleaned distributor, new plugs, wires were already new. and i got a real strong spark and its in time. but it wont do anything off of starting fluid, or gas down the carb. ATF didnt seem to help either. the low oil light is on as well as the GEN light. what is the GEN light? and is there anything i am overlooking on bringing it out of storage?

ATF is the diet coke of evil.

The gen light is for the alternator. It means it isn't charging. Basically, those lights are on whenever the key is on, but the engine isn't running. It means they're functioning correctly. They are typically called idiot lights.

Didn't you start a thread about this yesterday?

try pouring down a lil oil down the carb... so that the compression locks up... or you might wanna check timing... is it set @ stock?

no fuel, or low fuel pressure, or air. check timing 1st with timing light. then fuel filter, pump.

at the moment, im having the same probelm with my 79 gs. my brother flooded it so i unflooded it. the battery didn't hold any charge (drainging somewhere) then i changed the coiils and there are sparks now. now, it seems i am not getting fuel. i don't know if the fuel pump is dead, not really sure how to check it yet. i replaced the fuel filter already. im thinking something might be wrong with the fuel lines? i tried pouring some gas into the carb and it almost fires up but but doesn't hold idle even if i step on the gas. i step all the way down on th egas and it revs then even when my foot is still all the way down on the pedal, idles dies and so does the engine. i know there is gas in the tank but it seems the car is not getting enough gas. any way to check for clogged fuel line or ideas what might be the matter.

ATF isn't the miracle cure you've been lead to believe.

NO id ton believe in ATF, but i knwo that sometimes it can help seals and piston ring (i know there is none) seat on all cars if they have been sitting. its no cure, just a little help to get compression to start.

Just got fresh gas in it, put the truck on it so the starter woudl spin faster, no pops fires at all. prayed ether straight down carb with no fire.(I tried gas first) so tommorow what should I try. Compression is my concern but i understand there is no real way of measureing it.

ok i have a feeling that whoever the person you bought it from was lying... if you did set timing at stock, and poured down ATF or regular conventional motor oil, you should be able to start... the reason why you pour some oil down the carb so that you build/lock compression... to check your fuel pump, you should be hearing a whirring noise when you put the key on start.

Fuel pump is good as i used it to pump all the old gas out. I guess I am looking at compression probems now, witch if atf cant help out then rebuild is my only option right? how much would it take to lossen a stuck seal?
