i need your honest opinions i know that on my sig i have exhaust but i havent yet put it on and am second thinkin it,

one port was stuck shut and one worked awsome.....what should i do? tie them open or have the tube welded in from the exhaust to work them
or is there a more effective method?

wait so one of the sleeves is stuck shut? Then how do you propose to wire it open then?

ok so i just went and checked it it moves but not smooth enough for anything less than a hammer to move it back and forth, it feels to rusted out or something

well, you could take the lower manifold apart and clean all the grit out of the tubes for the sleeves, believe me it's amazing how much crud gets in there. But that could take quite a while, and not to mention you have to get the sleeves out of the manifold first.

But if you say you can move the sleeve with a hammer, then I personally would just wire it open. Beware that you will loose a lot of low end power though.

yeah but the problem is getting them out to clean. Once they dont rotate freely, good luck trying to get them out.

use a pipe 1" brush to clean the ports in the motor... put some vasceline or some oil lubricant before inserting them back in...

I agree with MRGSL-SE, Mazda did it that way for a reason. So please can anyone give me detailed steps on how to clean the 5th 6th ports. Please assume I don't know where they are.

Hammering the rod can break it and the sleeve STILL wont rotate. Do it right...take it all apart and clean it all out... sure it can take a good part of a day or two to do but youll be thankful that you did..good time also to change out the vacuum hoses. One can of Chemtool does wonders as opposed to two cans of Gunk.

Brownmound - thanks for the pictures.

Anyone - is taking the 5th 6th ports out and cleaning them just a one day job? I gather the actuators push a rod that rotates the sleeves? Is teher an easy way to see if the sleeves are frozen up?

sorry I was talking about removing the rods so they can be cleaned and move freely again.

I've had to do this to two intake manifolds so far and it wasnt pretty. And yes I did break the rods on the first one.

just get 4.44 gears and you wont have to worry about low end once your one the gas you never see 3000-4000RPM ! i recently swapped headers on it and didnt really feel a difference from what i was running before which was the stock manifold and straight pipe. so i thought the presilencer was restrictiong...everyone say's its not but anyways checked to see if the ports were opening up and low and behold either of them hardly even moved. so i just zip tied them OPEN !
didnt really notice the low end loss but i can REALLY feel the high end. and with the gears, lightend steel flywheel and lighter rotors, like i said i hardly see the 1000-3500. just basically get the car moving. these gears are wicked every light im shifting before the end of the intersection.
