2nd gen rx7 eccentric shaft in gsl-se 13b

2nd gen rx7 eccentric shaft in gsl-se 13b

Can I run a 2nd gen non turbo s4 eccentric shaft in a gsl-se 13b? I would like to keep the s3 rotors, housings etc.

yes, but you need to either keep the Thermal Pellet, or buy a plug.

Why not use the higher compression rotors? It'll give you a little more power, and they are easier to come by.

I was considering buying a new s4 eccentric shaft and having my s3 components refurbished by goopy to save money. My other question is will a s4 bottom end fit to a s3 intake and exhaust etc. I know gsl-se bottom ends seem to be harder to find compared to 2nd gen na rx7 motors.

bottom end?

"best" combo for a GSL-SE is to use an S5 non turbo engine/block. cost for an S5 engine and a GSL-SE engine is the same, the S5 and GSL-SE use the same emissions ports, so all of the GSL-SE stuff (intakes/distributor/etc) will go right on and work properly. the ports are larger on the S5 engine so you get more power too.

the S4 FC engine has different emissions ports, so it blocks those off and in addition to not running right it will never ever pass smog ever.

Used absolutely PERFECT S4 and S5 NA rotors can be sourced for dirt cheap because most FC peoples go turbo and toss out the NA stuff. The only issue is counter weights and flywheels (which means you'd need an FC flywheel and counter weight).

But I agree with finding an S5 keg being the best option, and you might find it cheap too. Once again NA stuff is easier to get a hold of cause TURBO.



EDIT: oh and for whatever reason 2mm apex seals like those found on FC engines are cheaper than 3mm

The issue is finding *good* S5 NA rotors now. If you want truly nice ones you do have to pay a pretty penny. S5 NA rotors are the highest compression 13b rotors before the Renesis rotors that can't be used properly in an older 13b engine build. One of the Vargas guys was able to machine his RX-8 rotors to accept RX-7 apex seals so he can have the highest compression engine possible on an NA setup. I think it's a 3 or 4 rotor, can't remember exactly.

But yes, S5 NA keg is the best for a GSL-SE. I'm selling my keg to a guy, running, so he can use it in his SE and I'll use the funds to get my peripheral port 13b engine stacked.

Why? They are both 80mm wide. Is the front renesis cw too big for the rx7 front stack cover?

I am currently in the process of gathering up the correct tools for a rebuild. I took my car to mazcare to have a clutch change and basically have the car looked over from a experience mazda service shop. The shitty thing is that my engine is in good condition compression wise from what he said. It is the eccentric shaft that is bad. From what I was told and the pictures provided to me. It looks like someone didn't have the correct tool to get the throw out bearing out of the car and took a grinder to the eccentric shaft. Scenario two is the new throw out bearing was pressed in while pieces of the old throw out bearing still in the housing. At this point I am trying to decide on a seal/ bearing refurbish or doing a port job as well. I already have a replacement eccentric shaft.
