You can't fire the Trailing at the same time.
One will fire as it should and the other will fire simoultaneously(sp) but in mid compression

*EDIT*

lol, ya wrecking yard wants 30 bucks for a leading coil, i still have a trailing coil from my old 2nd gen, wanted to use the 2gdfis on my rx4 since it has a 12a dizzy, but the stock coils. i want to use it on the leading side, dunno if it will work tho

I just recently hooked DLIDFIS using two 2nd generation trailing coils, and one stock coil. Not sure if the "trick" will work but this system works fine using three GM ignition modules.

i wish some one would post a pic of a 1980 dizzy explaining which wires to use for leading and trailing. i want to cut the wires near the dizzy so i can use quick connects so i can go back to stock if one igniter burns out on me. iam little confused about wiring as is lol. my buddy who went to uti for this stuff told me to find out which wire are for leading which are for trailing and hed have it wired up in 15min's.

i all ready made a rotor shape plate to hold 2 msd blaster coils. made the plate for the 3 igniter's and have all the wire and connectors i need.

i just wanna use it for the leading side. using the the 12a igniters, just like the write-up says , but with the trailing coil instead of the leading coil from a 2nd gen.

whoever said that the FC trailing cant be used for direct fire (just like the 2nd gen leading direct fire trick) is wrong. Ask them puerto ricans and the r-power boys in LA. they have it in their old school. I just dotn wanna bother with it since I have a MSD boxes.

Wacky, you're useless as usual.

Come on, tell us how a second gen trailing coil can power the leading spark. (I just gave mine away).

(PS, MSD things cost money, 2G coils don't)

what in "didnt bother" dont you understand?
Wiring wise, I dont know but I can find out if needed. In fact, I have been told that it is stronger than the FC leading coil trick. CarlRX7 has seen this set-up on old school cars at 7stock.

The trailing pack is really two coils with one large ignitor. The trailing ignitor has a 'Select' line that tells which coil to charge/fire. This is normally done with the 2nd gen CAS/ECU combo. Now, if you want to use the coils, you can do DLIDFIS and use the two FC trailing coils (1 pack) as your 2 leading coils (1 per leading plug).

If you tried to wire the trailing coils in parallel and used a single stock (J-109 ignitor), I would imagine that the ignitor wouldn't last long due to the high load. In addition, I don't think you would see any performance gain this way.

If you wanted to try to use the 2nd gen traling ignitor to fire, I would say that it will not work easily as the trailing pack is designed to only charge on of the coils at a time (alternate).

I hope it wasn't my post that started all this but Wacky is correct as usual Also, GSL_SE_Addict is also correct. The way to use the 2nd generation trailing coils is to hook them up exactly as you would in DLIDFIS, with their own ignitor. I am using the bracket for the 2nd trailing coils attached to the strut tower.

Personally, since the trailing has such a small affect on performance, it's designed to to clean up emissions more than a performance adder. I'd keep it stock, but install a Blaster coil. Other downside is engine bay clutter, additional wiring, etc..
