simple paint question

O.K., so I am looking at painting the 84 GS a factory color of white. The car was brown, and is now maroon, so I did't have paint codes for the white. Did some searches and found the codes of WT for Formula White, and WU for Dover White. My question is which is the brighter white? How much different are they?

Dover White is the brighter shade. comparing the two shades you have listed, Formula White will be a little duller due to the color hue. another factory white to consider is Aurora White, color code WN. its a bright white very similar to Dover White. another color to consider will be Crystal White. it's paint code UC and was available on the 88 10th Anniversary RX-7. i own one and drive it almost daily. its so bright that youcant look at it directly on a sunny day. it hurts your eyes. you can always ask people to post pics of their cars with the colors you have listed.

here's a pic of my 10AE in Crystal White:

and here's an old pic of an 84 SE i had that was Dover White:

and i'll bet if you asked Mickster he's post some pics of his beautiful 80 LS in Aurora White...

Thanks mazdaverx713b, I hadn't looked at colors beyond what was offered for the 1st gens, but I do like the Crystal white on yours.

O.K. so does anyone want to offer up some pics with the corrisponding color codes ?

Mickster?

Formula White was a factory color on the 82's (I don't think it went past that year). Here are a couple of pictures of mine that is Formula White. That was my original color and had it repainted the same color last year. That color has just a very, very slight hint of a beige tone, which I feel makes it look much richer than a stark white.

Thank you! Yours is very nice looking too. I can't tell by the pictures you, but is there quite a difference between the crystal white and the dover white?

the dover white is more of an eggshell white whereas the crystal white is what i would call a pure white with no yellows to change the hue. i can take a pic or two of the crystal white up close if you want. i sold the SE to buy the 10AE...

Thanks guys, kind of a tough call on my end. I like them both. I think I am currently leaning toward the Formula White, though. I know it is a correct color for the year of my car, and I like the brighter color of the Formula vs. Dover.

I just had a friend come over to take a look at the GS, and he is writing up a game plan and bid for doing the body work and paint. He wants the car completely disassembled and to repaint through out just as what is done at the factory. The car he built last year won the Street Rod Nationals, so I'm excited to have him do it next year sometime. I have plenty to do between now and then.
