Just picked up an 83 RX-7. Car fires but I can’t give it any throttle. I can’t even pull the cable by hand. The pedal feels stiff as hell and the arm of the pedal actually hits the floor. I guess my question is, can the cable itself be frozen? Or the carb be frozen? I’m sure the carb needs a rebuild but not sure if it would completely freeze like that.
It could be either, throttle shafts gummed up/rusted would be my 1st thought. Disconnect throttle cable to determine. Carb will need to be gone thru after all that time, gas tank likely need some attention.
If this rig has been sitting since '95, I would not be trying to fire it up or run unless you have drained the old gas (or whatever the sludge in there now is...). Sticky linkages notwithstanding you do no favors running the car till you get the old fluids out of it and start fresh:
coolant, engine oil, brake and clutch fluids, and -yes- gas. Recommend a replacement fuels filter. under the driver side, in front of the rear tire. Plugs and new dizzy cap and rotor will help. New accell cable avail for about $40. welcome and keep us posted.
