parts ID question.

Hello there all while peeping under my hood today to find a cause for my persistent lack of power issue, I noticed some sort of cable coming from the carb. It goes into the rightside of the carb if your looking at the car straight on. I started her up, and sure enough, when you pull this cable the car revs, and the secondary side of the carb opens up. What is the cable and where does this cable attach to? Thanks in advance. The car is a 79 with 12a.

There are three mechanical cables that go to the right side (rear side) of the carb on an SA:

1) Choke cable goes to the top of the carb, connects to a linkage on the choke butterfly. Other end ges to choke **** on dash.
2) Accelerator pedal cable, goes to the bottom of the carb, to the large rounded cam with the cable guide built into it, on the primary butterfly shaft. Other end goes to gas pedal.
3) Hot start assist cable, goes to a linkage on the primary butterfly shaft. Other end goes to the hot-start assist motor, mounted on the driver's side fender. Meant to help prevent hot-start floods by electrically opening the throttle while cranking a hot engine.

Possible could be an after-market cruise control added by a PO; didn't think of that.

Ok so it's the hot start assist. If someone could post a picture of where exactly it goes that'd be awsome, as I'm not really sure, nor do I know HOW to reconnect it.

1980 version:

It's the RED cable; follow it to HSA motor at bottom of pic on fender. Attaches with a small cotter pin.

Somewhat better (older) pic of it:

Carb end goes to this linkage (it hangs horizontally when it's hooked up):

It goes in the trash...

Nothing but dead weight and damn near useless. One of those things made just for "stupid americans" who
don't know how to start a car. Only reason to keep it on there would be if you are trying to maintain a
pristine all original type of car...
