George,

Your 20B FC 'Vert gets me going.

I love that you took the HEAVY Vert, and put real power down on it. I also live the fact that you took the "ho-hum" FC lines and put a Mariah kit on her.

I would LOVE to buy your car. But my wife would kill me.
One Cosmo Project at at time.

Maybe in the future I'll buy yours or do one on my own. *sigh*.
Glad you like it. When David Lane first drove the RXX-7, his reaction was, "You just made the car lighter." That was his way of describing the difference in the feel of the car.

Only the nose is Mariah. The fenders are from Tripoint Engineering. They were chosen, because they follow the stock beltline exactly, keeping the car closer to a factory appearance.

Yeah, but you would die happy.

And you have to figure, it's still turbocharged. (Yuck)

I think his Pontiac analogy was meant as an extreme example.... Pontiacs are some ungodly-heavy engines! Now, on the other hand, a SBF would fit nicely and doesn't have the weight penalty of a 20B. And if you wanted, there's plenty of room for a pair of turbos.

- PJ (happy to say that a N/A 12A is more than enough...)
4600 rpm

Yes, it's turbocharged. This is not an egregious fault...merely an expensive one.

See, that's the thing. At 4600rpm with the Poncho you'd be upshifting

George,

I checked Tri-Point Engineering's Website and I can't find any information on the fender flares.

Did they source them from somewhere else? Custom?

A simpler, though heavier, route is to buy my car. See www.cris.com/~Asam/20B.html
I love it...I was wondering where he was going with the post-right-after-another-instead-of-editing-his-initial-post routine. Turning into a selling post around here...

As for peejay...

But no NA SBF will ever generate 400+ ft.lbs at 2000 rpm ever...

And arguably, with a 1st-gen chassis, you don't NEED that much low end torque Heck, later 5.0 Mustangs weigh a lot more and they have too much torque and they only make 300 lb-ft.

See why I'm such a 12A fan? The torque curve is very well suited to the chassis.

Don't feel bad. I never found them onlne, either.

David Lane had visited Tripoint on one of his travels and had seen the fenders on one of their (I think) autocross cars. He recommended them to me. I called Tripoint and asked about them. They sent out some photos and specs via snail mail. FWIW, the photos showed a car with 315-wide tires under all four fenders.

Just so you can't say I didn't tell you: The fenders are not lined. That means that stones picked up by the tire tread could cause cracking or starring by hitting the underside. East Coast Refinishing, the body shop that worked on the RXX-7, made custom-fitted liners to protect the fenders and the new paint job.

From another thread (posted by the Hitman):

"And for those intersted. A 4-rotor will fit in a 1st Gen engine bay without too much drama. Have a look at my 3-rotor and how well it fits. (www.hitman.hm/rx7.htm) I will already be shifting the intercooler and radiator forward to give some more room, just incase I get tired of the 3-rotor and want to run a mild port 4-rotor aspirated. I am not dumb enough to believe the chassis will handle a turbo version."

If you haven't been there, check his website. He's 'been there, done that'.

You just HAPPEN to have cut out the part where he says that he used to think "need more power more power" and now that he has it he's looking for ways of REDUCING power so that it comes on smoothly

Ported 12A... it's PERFECT for the chassis...
