1980 Oil Pan Sensor Question
I have 2 sensors on my 12A. One is an oil level sensor and the other one I assume is some type of temp sensor (Agree)? I was wondering which one goes on top and which one goes on bottom? Again, I assume the level sensor is on top.
Also, anyone know whether those parts are still available? Mine could use replacing.
Thanks

So, TWO sensors in the oil PAN? Hmm. My 80 SA (and the Parts Manual) only has ONE, which is the oil level sensor. Do you have a California SA and maybe they have an extra?
Likewise the 81-83 FB (according to my Parts Book).
OR
If there are 2 sensors, could it be that the 84-85 12As had this and your engine was (presuming its not the original) built with a later oil pan, and thus the extra sensor?
Regardless, your 80's wire harness will only support the level-sensor anyway...
AFAIK the SA level sensor is NLA...

It's an SA and has two sensors. One is ths long "stick" with the hole on the bottom, the oil level... the other one is a short one kind of like a water temp... I assume that one is oil temp. I
don't think it's a later one because later engine oil level sensors are the 3 bolt mounter ones that have the lever that moves up and down or float...
Either way, is the level sensor supposed to go low or high?
Thanks

Reviving this thread.
Is this the sensor you were talking about? I am looking for this particular sensor and trying to help a family member restore his car.
I am looking for this part (don't even know the part number) but I believe this is a Oil Level Sensor (the stick kind as mentioned above.
Anyone have any additional insight (part number or source supplier)?
Thanks in Advanace!

The factory service and parts manuals can be found here for free: Foxed.ca - Mazda RX-7 Manuals
Page 1-A2. That is the oil level sensor part # 8341-10-730A (for 1980) => this part is no longer available new.

That is cool, didnt know that is what an SA level sensor looks like.
The FB became a bit fancier, its a float that goes in a larger boss with an o-ring to seal.
lotuni, if you can't find an SA sensor, you could run an FB sensor by replacing the oil pan with a 12A FB oil pan perhaps? I am not sure if the pan is compatible. But for all that effort I would just install the broken sensor to seal the hole. I would imagine if your oil gets low enough to trigger the sensor you probably have bigger problems. Perhaps the sensor was Mazda's way of adding some mistake proofing for the 'new' rotary that burns oil I can't imagine many cars of that era had oil level sensors.
