1980 header installation
I'm considering installing a header for my 1980 RX7. It has the heat exchanger and I am wondering the best way to install the header. Looks like the heat exchanger has hoses running to and from it.

The RB headers in seanrot's link bolt right up, like he says. There are a couple of other things you need to do when you install a header, however. The air pump and ACV have to be removed, and block-off plates made to ensure there are no vaccum leaks. I made mine out of aluminum. Once the air pump is removed, you will need to buy a short belt that will run the water pump, because it will not run properly with the partial contact from the alternator belt. You can get the proper belt from NAPA, pn# 7215.
I did the same thing a few months ago, and I have some advice...
Get a different muffler. The exhaust note is very high-pitched and tinny with the headers running into the restrictive stock muffler. I'm looking at a Magnaflow myself, but if you have the coin, the RB Primaflow is the best muffler you can get.

is it easy to find the gasket to fit the header?
I have to admit that I am a newbie to the RX7. I just have to remove those two items and fab some plates? What if I didn't want to make them? Is there a place that does? Would removing those two parts require me to change any settings with the motor?
thanks for the help!

If you get the mini-presilencer, it will bolt right up to the stock pipe, and it won't sound tinny. More like RASPY, lol.
I'm pretty sure Mazdatrix sells all the block off plates needed. There is one for the heat exchanger tube on the rear of the intake manifold, and one for the ACV on the side of the intake manifold.
And you don't need to run an extra belt, just use a high quality belt like Gates, and keep it tight.
