1979 Front Brakes

Anyone have a good diagram or pictures of how the front brakes go back together. These have parts I have never seen on other disk brakes.

Will this exploded diagram from the parts book help Herb?

The tricky part is inserting the spacers ( part # 33695 in the above diagram) that hold the calipers in the caliper brackets, a hugh pain.

There is one on the top and one on the bottom, whichever you do last will be tight so you have to tap it into place with a drift or maybe a screwdriver in a pinch, insert it at the just the right angle to get it started, then it will align itself as it goes into place.

It's a miracle. I got the brakes back together. I even used all the parts

Glad to hear it! Yeah, the 79's brakes can be a little more difficult to put together than the 80 and up model years. They just add a couple extra parts.

lol I just went through this myself. I know what you mean. It took me a few times of putting them together off the car to figure it out.

I've never found the front brakes on my 79 to be difficult to take apart or put back together. My 74 REPU uses the same setup, and it is easy to work on. The rear brakes on the RX-7 are super simple as well. The manual adjusters are a bit of an oversight on Mazda's part, but not a huge deal.
