Hmmm...

Maybe it's just because the aussie dollar is a bit stronger than usual, but i don't think $500 is that much for a set of custom headlights. If I were to try and build something like that, it would cost me more than US$500, and would probably not look as neat.

Then again, it depends on who does the fabrication of the components...

If you don't want to spend $500 on a set of headlights, DON"T: there is nothing "wrong" with the standard pop-up lights.

Wow, looks nice. If I had some extra cash, I'd get them. $500 does seem steep, but from what I hear from these guys you get what you pay for. Seems like they make high quality parts.

What a perfect time to buy something like this, sincemost of us are getting our tax checks back from the IRS. Those lights are absolutely beautiful, good work C+P! I bought the 2 point strut bar from CP last year and it's awesome. Knock the price down to $250-300 bucks and you'll definately have a buyer. To those of you who bitch about the price:This is a new product from CP..they have to test the water to see what people's responses are about prices, looks, etc. Your feedback is important. If no one will pay $500 for the lights we all begged for in SO MANY PREVIOUS THREADS, then CP has no choice but to lower the price. Let them decide. If I had the money right now I'd buy them but I'm gonna wait till they drop down to my feasible price range. I hate my pop up's and can't wait to see what the flush ones would look like. Again, GOOD WORK CP!

NATE

PS. A racing seat is like 500 bucks, a freaking SEAT! keep that in mind.

Hella lights - $100 a pair x2
plexi and forming it with heat gun and cutting - 50 bucks at the most to make

wiring/metal/screws less than 30 bucks of materials

200+50+30=280

Not taking in time to construct and assemble and profit

I will also wait for the price drop.

Maybe this has been mentioned, or it was on the cp site. I think it's quite important.
Are the beams adjustable?
For 500 I hope so.

Why not make the kit available to us cheap asses minus the high dolla lights? Save you and us some $$ and allow us to find a lower cost lighting solution? Then you can get the $$ you deserve for putting out such a fine *** product and we can have a sweet looking light kit for a price we can live with paying. Just a thought.

Great product line CP i LOVE just about everything on your site.

Guys,

$500 is not that bad for a quality kit. You wanna see expensive: http://www.rxecret7.com/lightkit.html

Good job CP! You are one of the few companies that still does R&D for our first gens.

I get sick of people who want everything but want it for below cost. I'm not rolling in cash, I have to plan my purchases, I think it is a fair price as I have priced out the cost of the parts.

I spent $190 for 1 tire on my car, and I see people bitch they can't get 4 tires with rims for $200!

People just need to grow up, and if you don't like a product or its price keep it short and simple.

Not everyone can afford every product thats made for these cars, but at least someone out there is making an effort to make stuff.

One of the main reasons I never made copies of my cold air box, which would of been cake for me. but everyone would of bitched, "It's only a bent piece of aluminum, why does it cost so much?"

arrrggg...... this is why I'm so burned out on this forum.......

ok, back to the world.....

Not gone, just frustrated.

Its stuff like this that frustrate alot of members, like me.

Face it people, you drive a 20+ year old car, the fact that ANYONE makes ANYTHING for this car is pretty amazing. I expect to pay a good price for 1st gen specific stuff, purely because the market is so small. $500 for a complete headlight conversion is CHEAP! Anyone who thinks otherwise should go shop around to see what it costs for other cars.

The real question is why do you think that it should go for so little? Even assuming that the materials to make the kit only cost $280 (which if done in reasonable quantities, doing low quality crap, slapping it together with elmers and duct tape might be possible) I think they are totally justified in asking $500 for it, because they are only likely to sell 20 kits a year. The truth is, this looks like a quality unit, it's sealed, and drops right in. Proably takes 20 min. to install.

If no one will pay $500 for the lights we all begged for in SO MANY PREVIOUS THREADS, then CP has no choice but to lower the price. Let them decide.
I wish this were the case, but I'm affraid that CP will be(if they aren't already are) turned off to making and selling parts for 1st gens. Then they'll liquidate, give us the middle finger, and send all the stuff they currently make to go down in the history books in the "I wish they still made those" catagory.

For those questioning that fate check out the CP racing site. It already looks like they are phasing out the first gen stuff... I no longer see the WB kit, or the fender flares listed...

Gee lets upgrade the lighting system then put CHEAP *** lights in it, uh, NO.
Unless you got a show car and don't drive it in the dark, or for some reason was born with night vision (The Military is looking for you) I want a good set (OH My, do I mean expensive?) of lights so I don't drive my car off the road into a tree and knock a family of birds out of that tree and make them homeless. I'd spend the extra $20 to make sure I don't make some homeless birds.

Hella 90mm lights - http://www.susquehanna.com/susq/hella/90mm.htm

68136 90mm High Beam Headlamp, DOT, w/65w H9 Bulb, Each $57.00
68137 90mm Low Beam Headlamp, DOT, w/65w H9 Bulb, Each $57.00

And I'm also sure that CP would like to make more than $1.89 per kit, otherwise they would never make anything more for our cars if they can't make a living doing it.

Thier just trying to make a product for people who want it, and have no way of making one themselves.

I'm sure I can get someone a deal on some candles and a chunk of cardboard, and I'll throw in some suran wrap and BODY COLORED duct tape to make your own kit for $20! taking orders now! Operators are standing...... ok they are sitting on thier ***, but they are wating for your call!!!!!!

weee.......

personally i love it, but that kind of money is needed for performance if you ask me, and in my case, if anyone has seen my car, getting rid of the bronze rims in which i despise.

Since when were RX7's exactly economy cars? Come on people, these aren't Toyota Corollas. If you like the look of them, weigh up if you think it's worth your time and effort plus parts to make something better. If you don't like the look of them, don't buy them.

Some of you guys can really **** and moan about something nobody is putting a gun to your head and MAKING you buy.

Personally I reckon it's great to see someone still making parts for 1st Gen cars. Well done!

I just don't care for the look of the CP light conversion. I must say thanks for still making parts for the first gen though. Now if you could make a kit that looked like this, I would probably shell out the 500 for it! Come on guys, someone make it. From my understanding, this was a custom job from Australia.

I love the way the it looks and have been planning on making a set just like that myself. Yeah people are going to complain about the price. If this were an infomercial and they were advertised for $19.95 people would still complain and ask for free shipping or what else does it come with. Just face the facts that some people won't pay anything for a product. That just means it isn't the product for them then. Simple enough.

I must admit to put $500 lights on a car I only paid $300 for seems a bit strange but that is the nature of a 20+ year old mass produced vehicle. I was actually going to purchase their rack and pinion kit but it went up by $100 to $650. Thank god I can weld since that extra $100 was the stopping point for me and I'm going to make my own. I just hope the light kit doesn't have a price increase as well. Regardless, I commend them for their efforts at producing nice quality products for a car that hasn't been made in almost 20 years.

Question for Chris and Pat of CP Racing: How much for just the 2 water-tight light enclosures with the lexan covers? I want everything but the Hella lamps.

I refer the Gentleman to the answer given previously before...

Having read the posts here is the additional information requested. First off yes the kits are water proof, they are completely urethane sealed to prevent water, dirt etc... from getting into the buckets. Kit price is mainly determined by the cost of components and materials, the kit would have been less expensive if we had used road boyz, or auto zone knock off lights, but we wanted functional/improved lighting so we opted for the higher quality Hella light, the beam pattern is a wide pencil beam. The bucket the lights sit in are aluminum to keep weight down and are one continuous piece. Also the kit comes PLUG AND PLAY for wiring and uses all factory switches, no cutting wires, no tape, no butt connectors, no under dash work, pull out old junk and plug in new system. Will take some more pictures outside and get light pattern diagrams up as soon as I can. You will have to excuse the big "GS" badge, customers car so it had to stay. In future please direct all questions or concerns to info@cpracing.ca as we can not monitor the forums and will not be responding here again. Cheers

Of course, the paradox is the sentence red-highlighted and the last sentence in blue, but that's a different matter altogether...

MORE PICS

This kit looks really great but I cant get an idea of what It looks like on the car if I can only see the front (and at a weird angle).

I realize that you are trying to show the lights, but I would like to see a whole car shot to see how they flow with the rest of the car.
