1978 JDM value
The pictures are a little vague. We would need more pictures and information on the car. Should be a 79, as 79 was the first year for the RX-7. They were built in early 78 but were designated as 79 models however.
By restore, you mean get rid of the hideous body kit? The wheels are old skool. Is it a real RHD drive? It should have mirrors on the fender unless maybe its from down under. It looks like a 1 or 2K car depending on the interior.
I don't like the Mariah rear hatch but the wheels are nice. As said, need much more info and pics to guess value. Miles, history, what's original and what isn't, etc.. Pics of engine bay, interior, under the rear, etc..
The pics you posted could be right off an 80's magazine cover, hard to tell.

i've been doing some research into the colors the SA came in, and Japan got more versions than just the 1979 and 1980 that we did. Japan also would go by build date instead of model year

Yeah, you can buy a 70 Duster for $5K, put 5K into it and sell it for $15k easy.
Or....
Buy an RX7 FB for $3K, put $5K into it, and sell it for $6K. I'll never get back the money I put into my car, but that's not why I bought it.

there is a JDM Rx7 for sale for $62K, but its in showroom condition. the thing you're looking at is neat, but its pretty rough
Parts to repair whats missing or removed is a challenge for US RX7s. Throw in RHD, unique JDM trim and you have a challenge.
The SA JDM RX7s were available in at least 4 levels of trim, more if you count the Specials produced for the Home market. To some buyers, a lot of what makes it "JDM" is more than the position of the steering wheel. Looks like a lot of that has been erased on this car. Of course there is a whole 'nother crowd that loves Old School modded RX7s. But you usually need the engine hop-ups to back it up. And that will take your wallet well beyond rebuild $$. If you liked the car for your own use, get it. But otherwise, unless you can do the work yourself, this will probably but you underwater...

A pristine, 1978 build (hood prop on right side), LHD, low mileage, with excellent interior/exterior presentation, single owner will easily fetch $10-12K. Those are getting hard to find tho, but still not at the Datsun level.
Restoration or "freshen up"? the body work/pain alone would run you 8-10k, sourcing parts (right hand drive dash) would be a nightmare. a real restoration would run you 25-30k easy, all for a car that would only bring you 15k back at resale if your lucky.
