13B S4 swap into my 85 GSL
thanks jacob, hows your project coming along? All I've got to do now is vacumn lines and electrical, minus some small odd jobs.
Jacob, are you going with the taurus fan or aftermarket? I think I'm leaning towards the Taurus since they are readily available and seem to be very reliable unless you are using the hi speed setting. I'm going to wire it with just low speed and a 185F thermoswitch.
Also about the police thing, the only way they are going to do a full inspection on the car is if you **** them off. CHP maybe, but a local agency shouldn't be that **** unless you give them a reason too.

I haven't done too much but I have a few pictures to update on some more wiring that may be useful to you. I'll post it later in my thread.
thanks teddy! thats what I'm trying to make a, a useful thread for newbies to reference with working pics.
Jacob, keep the wiring info coming I'm really starting to study it and the pics are great!! Cant wait to get it started so I can get that closer to starting it up

How does "nobody" care?
If you were to be stopped by the police and they inspected your car, you would get a ticket for illegal intake system. Unless it is a CARB approved product.
Maybe some smog guys don't care, but if they are doing their job as they are supposed to, it wouldn't fly.
I have both of the stock airboxes, that AFM is a different size, so without modification no it won't fit. The FC intake pipe is longer also.

True but I will be trying to pass the s4 13b off as the original engine and would rather not draw any extra attention to the fact that it isn't.
I guess I'll just to see what happens.

I didn't have time to post up my pics last night, I had to work late. I'll see if I can get em up tonight. It's just info for the heat hazard switch, I don't know if you are planning to use it or not but If you are, my pics will help.
You are going to have a blast! The first time it's starts will be a rush

I also need a better detailed vacuum/hose diagram because my rats nest has to be connected for SMOG. If you know of one Jacob let me know, the FSM one isn't as clear as I would like it to be...unless of course I'm looking at the wrong one.
Updated just for you buddy!

I'm afraid I can't help ya with the rats nest, unless it's something I can snap a pic of on my car with the manifold on. I'll try to help if you have a question just ask I'll see what I can do for you.

Hey guys,
Its been a while unfortunately!! so today I got the oil cooler mounted up, along with fabbing a bracket to hold the throttle cable since I was missing mine.
I started to hookup the vacumn lines and just saw 3rd's pic which will help greatly. I've got plently left to do but I am STILL waiting to get my front harness, so I'm just trying to do everthing I can for now.
I have a few questions now:
I removed my 12a emmisions computer and wiring, but when I tried to pull the wiring out a bundle of wires ran back towards the dash/drivers side. Do I need to remove my FB dashboard to get the wire connector off? What about the 12A harness plugging in to the 13b harness for the instrument guages function?
I've got multiple connections to make that I'm having a hard time figuring out because of missing links/parts
lets start with these 2, where do these go/connect too?

I'll have more soon

Ugh I tried to put an edited picture for the second one, but now it's not showing up.
The hose connects to the throttle body underneath that bronze looking pipe. Not sure if you saw the picture with the red arrow or not.

thanks jake for explaining that, I also have another issue.
I had the 12a with the holley carb setup from racing beat...I was looking for the fuel return line but all i could find was a capped off line...does that make sense?
Heres some pics of what I'm trying to explain:

#1 is the main fuel line
#2 is the vent tube that runs from the charcoal cannister to the oil filler tube vent
#3 is what I think is my fuel return but its capped off??
I'll take closer pics if I need too...

I'm not sure, but I believe you'll have to add the return line and do some modification there. I'm not sure the carbureted cars had a return fuel system at all because they are low pressure.
Let me see what I can find out for you.

I found this from this thread https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...=13b+swap+fuel
I have to disagree/correct a couple of points. Stock carbed equipped fuel lines are too small for the SE pump, they need upgraded to 5/16-3/8" for the supply line, old supply line can then be used for the new return line. All rubber fuel line must be replaced with FI rated fuel line. Fuel pickup/return assembly should be replaced with the SE one. All first gen tanks are baffled, which has nothing to do with the needed sump cup to prevent fuel starvation that only the SE tanks have. I have a write up in the archives showing the differences between the tanks, sump cup and pickup assemblies. Proper installation of a fuel cell would require removal of the spare tire well.
FC tank will not fit for 3 reasons, size, location of spare tire well is different between 1st/2nd gens and the filler neck is on the other side of the body. I have modded stock 1st gen tanks, using parts from an S4 tank, to use the FC sump cup, pickup/return assembly and in tank pump. Runs about 300 plus parts and shipping for a fully restored/modded tank. Dan S Young and dj55b are running tanks I've modded. Dan's was tricky since he wanted dual intank fuel pumps.
Afaik, the SE tank will not fit in an SA body so to get around spending the money on a modded tank for the sump cup, you will need to install a surge tank. There are a number of different ways to this and most run a low pressure pump to pull fuel from the tank to supply the surge tank, then an FI high pressure pump to supply the engine from the surge tank.

there is a fuel return line on the 12a's ill get you a picture right now..sometime's people cap it off to increase fuel pressure to the carb..you had a holly on there correct? so it would make sence. ill brb with the picture for you...

Just an update
I've been busy with work and life and recently got some time to work on the car...also the fact that I bought an engine that was not 100% complete has been haunting me because the more I look the more parts I'm missing...
I've been connecting electrical connections as well as coolant/heating lines and vacuum lines... I have had a hard time with figuring out where some stuff goes so later I will try to make a writeup that has detailed info and pics regarding these lines...
I've only got a few things left, make my front engine harness...I FINALLY found someone that has one available and I should get it next week. Purchase my Taurus fan and hook it up, put in the GSL-se fuel pump, and a few really small things. Then she should be ready to start...then the fun begins with troubleshooting the small things that go along with a swap...TPS, Air/fuel stuff, leaks/vacuum lines...ect.
pics to follow....
