The 12AT

Does anyone have more information about the 12A turbo that was offered in Japan? I really never see too much about them on here and the only things Google usually yields are the same four pictures below. I'm trying to see exactly how much was different. I know the transmission was supposedly "better" than a standard 12a transmission, the wheels were different, various badages, etc.

Anyone care to help fill in some blanks?

I tore one down a 2 months or so ago. The turbo seems similar to the FC turbo as well as the manifold. There was a lot of vacuum lines as there always seems to be. The mission is different and also looks very similar to the FC turbo mission.
The gauge cluster has a boost gauge in it, it had two ecu units, hmmm what else the distributor is different and quite saught after as well as the orange fan, and orange spark plug wires that are all hard to find. Not sure what other info you are interested in. I hope that helps! I think I have a thread in here where I posted all the pics of the engine prior to teardown and then the parts I was able to salvage after.

Here is what 12A rotor housings look like. Note side plates are US spec Y castings.

They close later than US spec. I think it is 10° ATDC later than US spec.

Couple of things..

1. That centre plate is not original, the 12AT had small ports, and injector holes, similar to the second gens. Housings are genuine though, with oil injection nozzles.

2. There were 3 different variatons, the GT turbo, the GT-X and the top of the line "something i dont remember" Similar badging, Rotary turbo on both B pillars, and Savannah on the fenders.

3. It has one fuel ECU. The other one is emission crap.

4. Early ones have the 160 BHP engine, later ones has the "impact" turbo, producing 165..

5. Yes, i do have a complete car..

Other than that, its quite similar to the GLS-SE, 4*114,3 and "big brakes" all around. LSD was standard i do belive.

Paint faded, engine looked like a mess, but it ran! Drove it all the way home, almost 400 miles.. Interior looked like new, and even the AC worked..

Repainted, new wheels

First year, just a very basic intercooler setup to allow more boost! Ran like a charm, and fired up every time..

Then, i spent 20 000 dollars on it.. And its still not finished.. A few teasers:
