12A smokes...Help

Ok, just bought an 83...its ugly beat, and kinda slow....it runs good just getting weak with age...here comes the question, at about 4.5-5.5k rpm it smokes really bad. now here comes the question, how can I minimize the smoke? I was thinkin and oil-change and some stop smoke treatment, I can't afford a rebuild right now, so i am looking for cheap suggestions

what color is the smoke??? Had a simialr problem and found that the O-rings in the intake were old and cracked and caused coolant to leak into the engine. Changed the gasket and o-rings and she's been running great!

most likely it's your oil control rings if it's bluish. Only a rebuild will fix that problem. But it's not a big big problem, just keep an eye on your oil level.

Do you have to top off any fluids? Could even be brake fluid through brake booster, if the smoke is black (too much fuel)..then choke could be slightly sticky

its blue smoke...burning oil...I guess I will deal with it, keep a quart of oil with me at all times, anyone think that stop smoke treatment would help or would it be more harmful to the engine?

id stay away from the stop smoke stuff, since it could gunk up your apex seals

that **** is bogus and does nothing but swell your seals, which is the point, but it turns them to mush in the process.

okay i too cant afford a rebuild like some of us here but you can find a good motor for 300 or less and is stupid easy to install by far the least involved motor swap ive ever done for the least amount of bling all you need is a 10, 12 , 13,14,15, and a apex tip screwdriver and 2 more guys a 2x4 and some nylon strap and you too can install a rotary motor in 1 day no bullshit.
