The valve by the fuel pump is the cut and check valven not an fpr. The stock system has an fpr of sorts in the return fuel line between the carb and firewall hardline. Are you running a deadhead system? Meaning no return line, along with an fpr?

yes. I followed the instructions from racing beat to cap the return line. I got a holley carb tuning book for 1970s so hopefully that has some info. I was reading and suspected my idle was to rich. Anyways. try that tomorrow.

2 items, straighten out the supply line to the carb, add a 90* fitting on the end of the fpr before the filter. Uncap the vent line to the tank. If you still have the charcoal canister, run a vacuum tobe from the vent to the canister.

I would still install a decent fuel pressure gauge. What brand of fpr is that one? The Holley 4-1/2-9 psi one is only 25 bucks.

That "7/16 inlet" you mentioned leaving open, ever plug it off? I bet it has a huge vacuum leak right there. It won't run for crap like that, especially at lower RPMs.
