12a coil voltage

How many volts are the stock coils suppose to put out for a 12a? Reason why is my car has no power up top, doesn't even want to rev past 4k in gear. Checked my fuel pressure, fine, checked my accelerator pump which is fine, changed my fuel filter, checked the voltage on the coils and the lowest the leading one would go was 12.2v but my trailing one would not go above 7.9v. I swapped the two coils with each other and it would not idle, it'd go from 500rpm-200 then back again, and before I swapped them it would keep a nice idle of 750rpm-730ish. Would this mean that my one of my coils is messed up? Any help I'll appreciate alot. Thanks

-Tony

Could be trailing coil going bad. Sounds like it if there is a voltage difference. Also check to see if your vac secondaries are working. Also if you have cats, that may be an issue. On a side note, if you happen to need any vert parts, such as glass, let me know.

Get two aftermarket coils or something and run direct fire (DLIDFIS) with them for the leading. Use the good stock coil for trailing.

Are you measuring on the coil +? With the car running or not? Check it with the car not running and see what you get. Both the coil + and - should be sitting at battery voltage. If one is lower, there is a problem with eother the coil or wiring. With power off, check the resistance between the coil + and -. It should be around 2 ohms.

I checked the voltage while the car was running. I'll go outside and check the resistence with the car off.

Resistence was 2.0 for the trailing and 1.9 for leading.

Have you verified that you are getting spark at the plugs (both leading and trailing)? That would be a good place to start...

yep, got it to both. Just switched to a second gen "direct fire" setup. Cranks nice and strong but still has some power loss. I can hear a nice hissing coming from my behive leak so I think I'll go with my extra oil cooler I have and remove the emissions while I'm at it.
