12a ???????????

I am having some real trouble. I have built several piston motors and i just bought a '85 RX-7 to try something new. I just can't seem to find any real power gains out of the 12A carb motor. Everything seems to be for the 13B FI. I Basically want to purchase a new street/strip motor for it. Help if you can.

Mazdatrix.com and Racing Beat both have some good engine parts. Mazdatrix actually sells engines in whatever style you want port wise. I have to say search though. There are TONS of parts for the 12A. Your just not looking in the right spots.

Question

I'm not Sure what kind of power i can get out of a 12a rotor. I want to make a good impression on the strip but still cruise on the weekends 400-500hp if thats possible.

More like only 350 hp will make a very good impression on the street and strip. Anything more than 400 hp becomes unstreetable in a 1st gen 7 just becuase its too easy to break the back end loose. I would say with 350hp, you would be going at least low 12's in the quarter on street tires. 500hp would put you in the high 10's. Way too fast for the street. Its easy to get 350hp out of a 12a when you turbo charge it.

Hummm 350hp and 2400lbs? Thats a hole lot of whoop ***. I get 270hp from my 3040lb Eclipse. Been able to pull a 13.7 at 104. Nevermind FWD and mud tires. ( ran a 14.1 at 107 once.....go figure)

I would hope for a mid to low 11 with 350 buzzing ponies.

His car is up to 700 hp I think. He runs sub 10 sec quarters though and his car is NOT streetable at all. I think 300-350hp in a 2400lbs car is plenty fast, considering that with that much power you would be hangin with most of the worlds most expensive supercars.

726 is what the dyno sheet said... he has a butt-load of mods done to that engine, though. I saw a video of him running a race... I think he shifted around 13!!!

Anyway, if you want good in-expensive upgrades for your 12a, Robert is the man to talk with.

email- robert@rotaryshack.com

check out his website too. www.rotaryshack.com

NOTE: He is a one man operation. He gets LOTS of orders, so he takes a little while to get your stuff to you. If you want to contact him, the best way is through email. He gets so many phone calls that he doesn't even like to answer the phone anymore!!!

Ok so 350whp sounds good enough.. What mods would be the best way to do this? i plan on a total motor rebuild with porting and new 3mm apex seal.

225kw is approx 301 to 306 hp depending on how you define the units and conversions.
