Damn! You guys raped the hell out of it! Why? Looks like a decent car. Does it have "the" rust?

Well anyways, I have a pic like that I just took last weekend but it took me over 2mo to get to the point where it took you guys one day Of course I had a little "delay" when I found some storage rust that I had to fix.

hehe, yah it had "THE" rust, pretty bad, the upper links were no longer attached, and the 2x4's in the rear coils to raise the rear was pretty kewl.
The whole suspension is going into Pauls GSL along with a 2nd gen NA motor. fun winter project

Damn... Say, can you cut me some sheetmetal? I need everything below the antenna... Let's just weld WT's rear floorpan in what's left of that -SE and, hmm, that kinda leaves us without a drivetrain.... ok I have a spare 12A in the garage, and a good tranny, and I know someone with a Chev 1--bolt...

<- me putting together a FrankenRex

They have the same spindle part but the 12a ones are ~ 1/4 shorter than the -se ones. (I was going to take a pic of this but my camera is on the fritz ) So I went to the yard today and got a set of 12a ones so my car will sit about that much lower. I figured the lowering springs that I got have a .8 in the front and 1 in the rear so I'd level her out by using the 12a spindles.

I have a solution for the upper link mounts tearing out...

It starts with a "T" and ends with a "RI-LINK"

I have plans brewing in my head for how to make one on the cheap... not to put down G-Force Engineering or anything, it's just that given the choise between fabbing my own parts and paying someone else for something I can make myself, I'll spend the time and elbow grease and do it the fun way. Besides, '94-up Miata 3rd members are apparently a direct bolt-in to the '84-85 rearend housing/axles, and the Miata 'member has brackets for the PPF that would be PERFECT for a torque arm (aka tri-link). It might interfere with the Watts linkage though... oh no, now we have to throw that away too and engineer something better While I'd have the welder warmed up, make myself one of those too...

Yah, a real painfull one. still love the 2x4 adjustable coils
and the lightweight shocks, the more you drive, the lighter they get!

Sorry. didn't check the link. Thats BAD. Much worse than my GSL.

I was thinking. My rust is worse than "Setzep"'s rust pic as I have actual holes, but not as bad as that. Was wondering where the cutoff of salvagable is. I think I'll keep.

Hmmm. I'm intrigued. Maybe I wont have to reinforce the brackets if I won't need em.

Do you have any web sites or reccomended reading on suspension theory? I'd like to compare the existing Watts Linkage to a Tri-Link, and possibly several other types of suspension. I know very little of suspension.

Hi.

I openly admit to coveting your warehouse-sized garage, with the crane and Pepsi machine. I NEED one of those!

Picture 37 looks like my Corolla after car thieves had spent a night stripping it.

Cheers, I enjoyed looking at those.

Bye,

heh, the rust on my car is worse.... There's no brackets left whatsoever. Not for long though. I'm gonna make my very own 1/8" steel brackets and weld 'em up real good to da frame and re-inforce my floor area around the wheels, and she'll be god as new. Actually, better. Strangly though, I checked the rest of the car for rust, and there's none?! Oh well, all the better for me

Jeff
