****please Help MY Turbo II Into A 79 Sa22c****

OK QUESTIONS TO THE 1ST GEN RX-7 GODS ARE BELOW IM PRETTY MUCH AT THE POINT OF BEGGING FOR HELP ON THIS LOL BECAUSE MY SEARCHING ON THE FORUMS IS NOT ANSWERING ANYTHING TO ME ITS JUST CONFUSING ME MORE AND MORE............

KINDA LONG SORRY

1. IS THIS POSSIBLE BECAUSE I KEEP SEARCHING AND I ONLY SEE FB'S WITH THE TURBO II SWAP..... WILL IT NOT WORK WITH MY 79 SA22 S MODEL? WHY DONT I SEE PEOPLE DOING IT TO SA22'S? I KNOW I NEED AN SE OIL PAN. BUT IS THE SE FRONT COVER NECESARY I KEEP HEARING IT IS AND THEN OTHERS SAY YOU CAN USE THE STOCK 12A FRONT COVER.? IM CONFUSED ON THAT ONE..... WICH IS THE WAY TO DO IT? ALSO WILL IT JUST MOUNT UP OR DO I NEED CUSTOM MOTOR MOUNTS? THIS IS A S5 TURBO II BY THE WAY IF IT MATTERS...

2. I HEARD THAT THE SHIFTER IS GOING TO BE IN A DIFRENT LOCATION WITH THE TURBO II TRANNY. LIKE FURTHER BACK OR SOMETHING? ANY INFO ON HOW TO GET THE SHIFTER ON INTO THE STOCK SA22 LOCATION WOULD BE FREAKIN AWSOME SINCE MY SEARCHES DONT COME UP WITH ANYTHING FOR ME............... IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE TO GET IT BACK INTO THE STOCK LOCATION? HOW AM I GOING TO GO ABOUT MOUNTING IT DO THEY USE A DIFRENT TRANNY MOUNT>? PLEASE HELP ME WITH THE TRANNY MOUNT STUFF ALSO.........

3.I HAVE A 1985 GSL LSD REAR END DISK TO DISK ! HOW DO I GO ABOUT SWAPING THIS INTO MY SA22? DOES IT JUST BOLT RIGHT UP? IF NOT WHAT WILL I NEED TO BOLT IT UP? OR WILL IT JUST NOT WORK AT ALL?

4. IF I CAN USE THE LSD REAR END WHAT ARE MY OFFSET'S AND BACKSPACING'S GOING TO BE FOR THE CAR? SAME AS STOCK OR WILL THEY CHANGE ? WHAT IS THE STOCK OFFSET AND BACKSPACING?

IM SORRY YOU GUYS FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS. I SWARE I SEARCHED AND JUST CANT COME UP WITH REALL ANSWERS IN THE THREADS I FIND.....

I HAVE ALL THE TURBO II SWAP PIECES AND THE CAR AND REAR SO I REALLY NEED TO GET THIS STUFF TOGETHER AND ROLLING AS ITS JUST IN THE WAY AS IT SITS NOW.......

1.S5 TII engines have a big electric oil metering pump which will require a customized SE front cover.I did it,its not complicated but does require TIG work.If you dont run the factory ECU,you can install a stock SE front cover and run a mechanical S4 OMP, but youll have to fab up the linkage since the S5 throttle body has no pull tab for an OMP.The 12A front cover WILL NOT work unless you delete the OMP and run premix. The TII engine has 4 oil injection nozzles, the 2 hose 12A OMP will not bolt up to it properly.......and theres no reason you cant do a TII swap on an SA,its still a 1st gen, very little changed mechnically. You dont see them very often because there are less SA's out there and some people like the look of the FB.

2.The SA shifter is a mile away from the FB shifter and even farther away from a TII shifter. On an FB its only off by an inch and you can modify the TII box to get that inch back. There is no way Im aware of to get a TII box to match up to the stock SA tunnel hole.Either run a rare, hard to find 70's 13B tranny, cut a new hole,or rebuild an SA 12A tranny and just be nice to it.12A trannies dont like much torque, which is bad because the TII engine produces torque in spades compared to a N/A.Tranny mount is easy, just a little grinding on the 1st gen rubber block and some 1" spacers to push the 1st gen crossmember down for clearance.Custom driveline is required if you run a TII tranny.

3.GSL rearend bolts right up.Youll need a brakeline adaptor.Thread pitch is different on the SA.

4.No change in offsets unless you install an SE rearend/front brakes. The SE needs more negative offset to get the wheels under the fender lips.

Your in for a complex job,you should really already know all this stuff before attempting something of this magnitude.Im not trying to rip on you or anything, but the TII swap(especially a factory S5) is not a simple task. Its also not impossible, but it does require knowledge of SA/FB and FC mechanical differences,FC EFI functions, basic electronics and wiring skills and patience/research to become comfortable with the more complex FC engine control systems.Get a S5 factory service manual and read it.....trust me.......
Once you start the conversion,if you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me..

Would you happen to have a good picture of what you had to do to the -SE cover?

Not a good one,it was done years ago when my S4 TII swap was upgraded to S5.I do have this installed pic that shows the builtup area of the cover that was needed to mount the larger,S5 OMP.The OMP is the only real "custom" catch when doing a S5,as opposed to a S4 swap which is more a "bolt in", because it has more in common with the GSL-SE EFI 13B.

SA and FB chassis are the same so the engine swap is the same.

Search through the archives and you'll find more info than you need to know.
