Yea looks good Ray, the tone of a RB exhaust is awesome. Good luck trying to keep that header shiny though, at least 1/3 of the chrome on mine has burned off, the rest is all discolored and rusting haha. Oh well, its not a show car

Ray, i was out drivving my 85 S (with RB SP exhaust) and i couldnt wait to get back and tell you how nice the exhaust is. i wanted to tell you that you won't regret installing any RB component. i look forward to hearing about the install.

Thanks guys, can't wait to actually hear the legend. I will make quivalent videos of my current "stock" system and the new RB system for comparison, should get to it this weekend.

It's hard to imagine the White One giving more pleasure than she already is, but if Dave is right there's more to come.

Ray, there is a very notible increase in power with the RB system. the engine pulls through the rpm range stronger than ever. its almost effortless. its beautiful.

looks great ray! Just a thought... you might consider putting some exhaust wrap on the header to save the finish of it for a little tiny bit longer... i'll be doing this to mine so i'll let you know how it lasts after a while...

and they do sound great!

Yeah what's this exhaust wrap stuff, I heard about that before but don't know what it does or where to get it. I'll ask a Autozone on my way home.

On the power issue, it will be interesting to see how much better it is that my current system, which did give me quite a boost over the stock cat set up. I'll take videos and do careful butt-O-meter HP measurements with it set up both ways.

Ray, the header wrap is like ceramic cloth. It's basically high temp insulation for your exhaust components. You are supposed to wrap it around the header, and basically mummify it. It keeps the heat from spreading into the engine bay and heating up other components, mainly your carb and intake. It works good, except it tends to cause repeated condensation, which will make your header rust more quickly.

If you really wanted to use the header wrap, it would be best to ceramic coat the header first and then wrap it. This would minimize the damage from the condensation, or maybe eliminate it altogether. You can buy header wrap from JEGS or Summit Racing online.

ok that's just disturbing... but funny!

I agree about the condensation buildup, just need to be careful about treating the base metal before wrapping it... I'll have pics up when i do mine

OK, update on the RB install. Mike came over and we put her up on ramps.



Out with the old, in with the new:



So some body said, Mike I think, let's fire her up:



OK, so somebody, probably me because I was under the car, forgot to put the bolts in that hook the midpiece to the muffler. So we fixed that:



Here's a record of 2 12A's hooked to 2 RB's and 2 DSL's out for a first test drive:

Yes Dave, it is better (can't put the video on the internet but maybe I can get a legal one out on the interstate). How much better I'll only know when I hit I85 for the trip into work Tuesday a.m. But the couple of brief test drives put a smile on my face. I'm especially curious about the gas mileage.

Here's the before, stock header and muffler (24 years old) plus a bonez replacement pipe:



Here's after the RB install:





The main difference is that that sweet rumble was coming from holes in the old exhaust, now it's the RB beat.

I need to adjust the hangers, the system is up against the undercarriage a bit to tight right now.

I have a new sticker:



And the header chrome is starting to get broken in:



Watching the Indy 500 right now but a little later today I'll go out and adjust those hangers, get it looking pretty and take another look at my carb settings, might need some fine tuning with the new exhaust.

Ray!! great install... if i'm ever down your way i'll have to let you know so we can go cruising... I'll keep you informed as to how my RB system refurbish goes... I believe my next step is to weld in an O2 sensor into the collector before everything goes back together... then repaint, then wrap, then paint the wrap, then sleep...

i had a feeling you would like the exhaust. the exhaust is expensive but you really get a lot in terms of performance for your money.

Well yes $750 is a lot of money, but you get what you pay for, right?

Also remember I justified this purchase by the fact that this white car has given me more that 60,000 trouble free miles since a bought a couple years ago and my total investment so far (before the RB) has been less than $2,500 (that includes the purchase price for the White One, $1,545).

Plus I plan to keep driving the car for many more miles, so why not install good stuff so I can spend less time repairing and more time driving over the next few years?

Here is another way to put it. If you are a commuter looking for a beater to get you to work for the next few years, do you think you could find a reliable boinger for under $3,000? I have a nicely appointed and very reliable 1st gen RX-7 for about that much. (Actually I have two, the Silver One is an ex garage queen that's in better shape than the White One that I bought for $1,200 about a year ago. I plan to register it this summer to give the White One some company).

Done right, FBs can save you lots of money. And tomorrow on the way into work I'll find out just how nice these RB systems are.

Very good looking as expected Ray, glad you like it. I've gotton many years of trouble free useage out of my RB exhaust components. They are starting to show some rust, but nothing serious.
I know with my setup I definatly noticed a power increase, will be interested to see if you see the same.
