I am sure there are Gen 1 owners on the forum for 16 to 80, tell your story. Mine, it's 1980 and I am a senior in college. A friend had graduated and was working a few hours away. We went down to his apartment for a party over the weekend. Got there and there it was, a gold colored 1980 S, 4 speed. no air, no cruise that his roommate had just purchased. Wow, I couldn't take my eyes off it. Later in the evening we ran out of our favorite beverage and the roommate said he would go get some more, and I of course said I will go along. On the way to the car I asked, "Mind if I drive?" He looked me up and down and realized I was more sober than he was, and he tossed me the keys. We took the long way (Semi rural Iowa at least 10 miles) and I bought the 4 or 5 cases of beer (probably every penny I had in my pocket), and it was money well spent. Been in Love ever since. Bought an '83 GSL when I got my 1st real job out of grad school in '86, and purchased a '79 GS 3 years ago, It was a 9/10 when I bought it and its better today. It;'s Sunbeam Silver, the only thing that could be better is if it were Gold.
