It's a rotary, and it's an improvement. Counts in my book.

I ordered new black 12-point nuts and bolts and the center nut wrench today. Still trying to find new valve stems and center caps. May not bother with the caps but I have a paint scheme in my head that I need to get new ones to pull off.

The added work to reach the point of true "bling" like you have achieved would be a bit much for a "work horse" type of car like mine.

Again, beautiful work!

P.S. What type of clear did you go with?
Truth be told, it ended up being a lot more work than I bargained for. I'm happy with the result, but it ate a couple weekends more than I planned.

I used Rustoleum Hi-Temp Engine Clear. Supposed to be good up to 500 degrees, and I intentionally did not polish or clear anything from the intake manifold water ports on down. That area's invisible when the engine's together in any case, and I don't nomally like to paint anything a gasket goes on.

Final snaps from today's work.

Rotor housing 2 (front)

One clearcoated, one not. Who can tell which is which?

The intake I so far plan to just leave nylabrushed. may clear it, may not. I'm still on the fence about plugging the intake water ports = = trying to convince myself it would have no smog impact.

Redid my tail-shaft seal, speedometer drive gear seals, shifter return spring, and new throw-out bearing. Also hauled off some scrap metal so it was a very productive day.

I like that grape-candy purple, Ray. Very effective with the polish work.

I modified my emulsion tubes to accept Holley air bleeds. Drilled, tapped, and counter sunk.

that would be correct, also compounded by not being quiet the right blue and adjacent to the housings .... but will probably be pulling the engine and redoing

ever dawn on ya how rotarted you are? Strikes me when I make a comment like pulling an engine with less then 200 miles because the shade of blue if off

Tonights mission to figure out why the power hatch is not opening using the button

It took more than one day but I took this '79 626 close ratio transmission apart:

So I could get this modified:

The one on the right is the 626 input shaft machined to work on the rotary engine.

This will let me have the close ratio trans that I have wanted for so long!

^I've been wanting a Miata geatset in mine for quite a while. Did you have any problem finding a machine shop to modify the input shaft?

No, there is one here that I have used several times before so it was not a problem. I started to try to do the mod myself on the old antique lathe at work, but I caved and paid the machine shop.

Glad to see that somebody has been making some progress.

This damned virus is still kicking my butt (round 3 since Christmas!). And the next item on the top of my list is to take a neighbor out of town to check out a 12a he found on Craigs List, so I probably won't get anything done this week at all.

Maybe I'll get the propane tank refilled for the heater so I can at least do a little painting (I did get some prep work done on the header panel, at least).

I'm thinking of painting the entire nose black (header, headlights, bumper (maybe), air dam, and maybe front tips of the fenders. I'll do it in Plasti-dip so I can peel it off if it doesn't look right. (fear of commitment much? lol).

Got one of the bin covers completed, ran out of adhesive before I could finish the 2nd. Put the chrome hatch latch cover on, put in the interior pieces I had sewn up to match the rx8 seats.

Those housings look great

No work done, but I did get word of an orphan (see attached). It's a GSL, '85 I believe, drives but needs a tuneup.

I had decided to keep my chassis, and just deal with the damage from the crash a couple of years ago. It's not sever, but I know it's there and it bugs me horribly. Right now I've got her pretty torn down, with most of my race parts off of her anyway (for a winter refresh). So, she's stripped down and I'm staring at the bent metal every day, feeling down, when all of a sudden I hear about a nice, red, possible replacement. Is God trying to tell me something?

The only drawback I see is that it has a sunroof...

With a bit of work, I'm pretty sure I could swap parts around, end up with a solid/pristine chassis again, then sell the original and double my money in the process. However, time is always the one thing I never have enough of (okay, add money to that list as well). But, I could probably swing this and finish it before the race season starts up.

On the downside, I do feel a lot of loyalty for my first ever chassis. Thinking of replacing her makes me feel sad inside. lol
