I got an 84 GSL on ebay. Needed a new starter which was weird on a 40k mile car. It tested good but was not engaging all the way when the car was warmed up. I'll install the new starter tomorrow. Tested the new starter at Advanced Auto and it about jumped out of the strap down.
Also I bought the hoses and orings for the beehive leak.
Pics will come and you will enjoy. hopefully. I've never been big on silver paint but with the wine leather interior, I could not pass it up. It's a keeper.
I put a Carquest starter in and it works perfectly.
I got it some 15" wheels. Pretty sure they're Panasports, they sure look a lot like my 14's. But the hub hole is a little different.
I think the centers may want a repaint.
They were on an 83. As to the rest I'll find out. For $225 I figured I couldn't go wrong. One pair has some ancient 205/55 Dunlop sp8000's, the other pair what seem to be brand new 195/50 Dunlop Direzza.
I'm gonna try 'em on maybe Sunday if the weather suits, just to see. Then get the rubber off and paint.
I prepped the car for SevenStock, after making half-assed repairs to the front bumper where the emergency garage-door mechanic I had to call in after the door derailed this morning dropped a frigging Crescent wrench on the car from 9 feet up - - he'd been given permission to move the car out of the garage ( I was at work) but he was scared he'd hurt it...
Full-assed repairs will take place sometime this winter, when I have more time.
Washed the SA today. I am done with the track events. It's time to take the car apart and do some maintenance, oil pan gasket,drive shaft seal, rear diff bearings and seals. Trying to stop the car from leaving its mark everywhere. May need new front rotors, pads , and new tires as well. Other things to address are new a new drivers seat, weather stripping. And a really nice detailing to finish it off.
Friday afternoon, my car (now christened "Brazil 66") and Mr. Peepers left the Monterey area for Sevenstock 18. We couldn't fit 66 in the trailer so j9fd3s drove the trailer and I drove 66. I wouldn't say the drive was pleasant, with absolutely nothing in the car except a seat and a steering wheel, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. A little cold. A lot bumpy. And a lot noisy. A few times, at the request of my comrades to relieve the boredom, I did a flyby the trailer, fireballs and all. Made it to Ontario at midnight.
SS18 was awesome. My first time 2 years ago was a great experience, but I felt the pangs of regret for not having brought my car. It was a much different experience this time. It's a nice ego boost to have so many people come by to check out the car. The chief editor from Japanese Nostalgic Car came by, took tons of pics, and then told me how much he liked the car. That was a HUGE ego boost.
Later in the afternoon, as things were winding down and people started to clear out, one of the guys from the Mazda race crew made a b-line for my car. He told me that he thought it was really well done and then asked me about how I got it to sit so low. Then he started telling me about the Daytona SA22C and how they have rally car struts on it and the car sits way too high. I then realized I was talking to the guy that's responsible for the care and feeding of the Daytona SA22C test mule. Then he took me over and showed me the engine compartment. It was very helpful and it gave me a few ideas.
I also got some very nice words from Bernie, the organizer of Sevenstock.
We just got back home today from the long drive back. It rained the last 30 minutes of the trip (of course), so the 66 is a mess. It'll get it's first bath since the new paint.
I'm exhausted, but completely elated that I was able to make 600 mile round trip in my car for this event. Getting props from both the editor of JNC and the Mazda staff was the icing on the cake. The weekend really couldn't have been better. Really looking forward to next year.

its actually the first time the two cars had been together, so it IS a rare sight. after the two cars didn't fit in the trailer, we thought about not bringing peepers, but i'm glad we did! it was good to be there, and good to see you too DD!

Yeah, it would have been a shame to leave Peepers in my garage. Glad we all made it. We might have gotten there faster if we'd all driven our cars though.
Yup, I confirmed with Berny...he's down for having my car out there with the factory race cars for the demo runs at SS19. I think that will be the best photo op I could imagine.

On the taillights, the scary thing to me was that I did not even notice them until I watched the video, funny how concentrating can give you tunnel vision, but how could I have missed those things??
You didn't. That's the LED taillights using pulse-width modulation to dim them, and it's invisible to the eye (much like how movies work.) It's only noticeable with video cameras because the lights are pulsing at one frequency, and the video camera is capturing at another frequency, so you get a strobing effect. Similar to how helicopter bladed appear on film and video.

Alas, I haven't even looked at my '79 in months... or the two SEs... If only I had a few spare engines.
i installed a rear hatch shock. I know it's simple and boring but now my hatch doesn't fall down. I also unplugged the power to the hot start motor. Something I had no clue existed. I feel good about it though. I think I might be ready to do a rebuild now. If I needed a rebuild.
