Hey Robert, can you run that track any time you want, or is it only on special occasions?
As for what I did today, replace my pass. Side door glass cause some butthole thought it would be cool to bust it out in the night, some people just suck!

Prepped her for the 300 miles road trip to SS18 this Friday. New road tires on new-to-me Datsun Z wheels. Bringing the SSRs w/slicks for the show (but not running).
I really had hoped to have the new dash in, but some miscommunication resulted in me having to get different gauges, so there's no way I'll get it done in time. Will be rocking my stock gauge cluster and home-made lexan center console. While I'm a bit disappointed, in the end, I'll be a lot happier. The dash will look amazing when its done (probably a month or after SS18). I'll post pics when it's done.

BTW, any reason you posted this in Youtube's "comedy" category? You might get more views by putting it in the "Autos & Vehicles" category.

I didn't notice the category until it was posted. It was my first time to post a video and I have no idea how that happened, nor can I figure out how to move it. On the taillights, the scary thing to me was that I did not even notice them until I watched the video, funny how concentrating can give you tunnel vision, but how could I have missed those things?? Also I agree, the Cayman certainly could have done better in the hands of the right person, however, he was in the intermediate group, so he was no beginner, doesn't quite add up. One thing I have learned from getting into these track days is the fastest guy there is seldom in the fastest car and the fastest car can get passed by cars that you would never think could. My favorite was a guy that showed up in some kind of Ford Focus rental car and everybody laughed at him until he put slicks on the otherwise stock car and started passing everybody, he entertained me all day!!!

I remember the only cars that usually end up not making it through the track days are high-power cars with low-experience owners who can't deal with a Miata passing them.

I tested five Nikki carb tops today to see how well the OEM needles and seats are working. Two needed a minor 1mm tweak to the float tabs to bring the fuel level right into the middle of the windows. In total, four out of five tops will work. The fifth top has some really damaged seats where a previous owner tried to remove them with a drill bit through the holes. It dented the soft brass to where the needles are not able to freely move up or down. The bowls basically run really low, then fill back up really high, then run really low again. And that's when they're not actually flooding. The hysteresis, if that is the right word to use here, is terrible. I'm thinking I'll need to get a set of brand new OEM needles and seats from Mazdatrix for $40 a piece. Ouch.

i woke peepers up, it was mad at me. i put the stock air cleaner back on, because it has a filter, twiddled a few screws, and gave her a pat on the behind, and that helped. it really needs a few laps to get all warmed up though

As luck would have it, I had one good spare OEM seat buried in the pile so I swapped it in. I removed the drill bit damaged seat and attempted to polish the other one. Also did the spoon burnishing trick on the needles. It did the trick! Now the fuel level rises up to the middle of the windows and stays there! I just saved 40 to 80 bucks, Woohoo!
