universal joint went out

So what did the used car dealer to jerry rig it, before I bought it???? The universal joint went out 2 months after I bought the rx -7 used. The car was driven about 2 miles to work and back mild city driving.

There's no rigging a u-joint. The staked joints can be replaced in the 1984/1985

There was some kind of solid material with the worn roller bearings. After fixing it in 1990, I had to fix it again in 2000.

The car's differential had the part number on it. The car had a bad wreck and fire before I got it. It has 1981 rims, when the car is a 1983.

I figured out the driveshaft is from a '82 car.

I took mine to a driveshaft shop. Cost $100. Now I can grease them and replace as needed myself.

They took the old u joints out and gave the driveshaft back to me so I could powder coated it. once powder coated, I took it back and they finished up.

Looks good. Awhile back, I was looking to replace my DS after finding the joints a bit wobbly, and went with Mazdatrix with replaceable spiders. Very conventional design and now much easier to maintain.

The Mazdatrix unit weighs 13.8lbs ready to install, so no point in trying to go lightweight with aluminum or exotic materials.
