Dave, I'm redoing my center console, cleaned up the Clarion, refinished all the surround pieces and I'm even installing a working ash tray, everything is perfectly stock. This sure would look good on there:

Of course then I would need to have a new red shift boot to go along with it. I know you want to hold on to yours but there must be at least one more out there somewhere.... Anybody?

So I took off the **** planning to dye it red again when I realized I already had an unobtanium, my original 100k+ shift ****. I just love the way they turn green

I mean, it's takes 25 years to get that patina, do you think I'm going to **** it up now?

Yeah, I'm with Dave on this one Ray-
UV-bleached green, no matter HOW hard you worked to get it that way
just doesn't seem right....

Tho I must say the jewel stood up nicely! That's usually the deal-breaker-

Well OK, but if I dye the **** I have to dye the shift boot, horn button and door panels, they all have that lovely green patina too. Where do you get this SEM burgundy dye anyway?

Stu from NC, black interiors are so obtanium, the only option on most cars these days. Nothing says first gen like a red leather interior and nothing says unobtanium like a red leather interior in mint condition.

so as for some who are burgundy leather interior purist, i am a tan leather interior purist. i believe they are quite rare as i have been collecting only a handful of parts over the years of working to restore my Maya Gold. I believe 81 and 82 in gold came with tan interiors. I am not positive but I have seen 83 perhaps first half of 83 model years have tan but otherwise the doo doo brown interior. i've been lucky enough to find a mint condition used dash which replaced my dry cracked one as well as a mint center counsel. I was super lucky to find a brand new rear storage bin as the hinges on both of mine are broken. Also I found a brand new door sill. Still on the hunt and collecting another mint or new rear bin and trims around the doors and rear hatch area!

the hinge is so thin! i'm scared to use it!

Well, this is a bummer:

I have cancelled your Mazda order. Unfortunately, the **** you're looking for has been discontinued, and is no longer available. I checked the inventory of all dealerships in the nation, and couldn't find anything. I apologize for the inconvenience, and wish you luck in finding a replacement aftermarket part. Thank you for your time and business,
SA ***** are gone like the dodo, guys. I missed out on the last one (out of Chicago) by a day or two.

/Crai.

Where do you even go to find Mazda OEM parts, other than Mazdatrix?

Ha didn't think too much on that question. I just thought there was a Mazda website that you could order older OEM parts.

A few years ago there was a place called Mazdaformance that was based out of Jeff Haas in Houston. They sold gobs of NOS items, but as the car market declined so did the business.

The guy behind Mazdaformance is still a member here and posts occasionally in the South forum.

tough one Glen -
Decent ***** DO show up on ebay from time-to-time tho - living proof of that

Yah - Mazdaformance was amazing - they somehow got parts Lots of NOS RX7 (all gens) stuff from Mazda and resold at fractions of original prices. I cleaned up there whenever possible, tho shift ***** were not amongst the Booty...

Boyee - NICE! tan stuff is certainly unique. We get all giggly about NOS black stuff, but as Ray sez, its the colored bits that are truly the most rare. (-still grateful for my black interior tho)

True, but the BEST interior for a first gen is this:

All THREE versions of the OEM SA radio systems (if there is a FOURTH please tell/show me!).
Have 2 diff cassette players too, might be a third (plain-jane model: w/o dolby)??

Stu, love the collection of stereos. oddly though, the lettering on my radio on my LS is not orange but it is green by night and white by day. also the FM buttons are in different locations.. there may be a fourth sir...

Those plaid seats are truly unobtanium. We are fortunate here in the Atlanta area to have an SA owner (Andy) who has a nice set in a car he still drives daily. Andy is such a purist we can't even talk him out of his points and 4 speed transmission:

in the 90's (and beyond) mazdausa did a lot of wherehouse consolidation/moving. also they do "scraps" for tax reasons its better to bulldoze the last 100 rx2 dashboards, than it is to sell them to Mr Hatley at a discount.

it always seemed to us that the houston wherehouse was closed WITH ALL THE PARTS IN IT, lots of OLD OEM parts floating around texas.

mazdaformance was good though
