In the HDI models, I've read that that pad was used to mount the Emergency Microwave Emitter, which only came into play in the rare and unfortunate instances of HTR - - Hamster Thermal Runaway - - to prevent overboost.

It was rather crudely referred to by laymen as the PGTW* system.

yes. and its possible. you're trying to make me remember stuff crazy ralph taught me when i was a kid, but the early twin distributor engines use a top mount starter and a different trans bolt pattern, EXCEPT for the 73 Rx3, which uses a bottom mount starter.

so you may ask yourself, my god what have i done
you may ask yourself where is my large automobile
you may ask yourself how did i get here

i don't know, but they were moving to the bottom mount starter anyways, AND the Rx2 (well something) has a sensor where the egr valve would go later

The implementation of valve-controlled EGR systems date back to... 1973.

Coincidence???

(Insert dramatic prairie dog here)

We... don't... think so!

Of course not.... because 1973 was when the NOx emissions standards went into effect, so many/most cars received EGR valves that year. Same as it ever was.

Rotaries don't strictly need them, because of their naturally low NOx. It's hard to get combustion temperatures high enough for NOx to be a serious concern, especially with the thermal reactor "make it run super rich and then burn the rest off in the exhaust system where we don't have to worry about crevice volume issues" emissions controls.

Trufax: I nearly baselined the smog test station with my '80 when it was stock. The thermal reactor system worked *good*. Just not so fuel efficient.

Yeah, it does... so long as nothing wears out.

My 2009 smog test had HC's at 6 PPM, CO at 0.02%, and NOx at 174 (1224 max).

TR afterburner for the win...

Downside is weight, fuel use, restrictiveness, and a certain fragility.

I wish, I also have a fender mirror, turbo manifold and another Turbo air box not pictured.

The turbo gauge cluster is the hardest part to find

That infamous shift ****

I did not see anything in that wonderful assortment of parts that I can't live without, except possibly the new shift ****. It obviously belongs in my 84 FB which is shown here, has a totally stock interior including the original stereo, except for the boost gage:

Yep; kind of the whole "government-mandated 'engineering innovation' concept" in a nutshell. When to try to force a new performance mandate down the throat of an existing technology, that's usually what happens. Everything else becomes secondary.

Obtanium!

Rare do we see something for our cars go from Unobtainium to Obtanium, but I'm here to testify:

As mentioned in the 'do today?' thread, Rear-bowl carb floats for Nikki carbs are once again on the market, after having been NLA for many a year. No longer.

I got one. Just in time for my carb build, too.

Sorry about that, Ray; I mentioned it in the other thread but didn't put it here:

I got it from Black Dragon. $29.95 I believe - - about twice what AutoZone charges for the front float.
