SA carpet

I'm going through my 79 interior and have a new front carpet for it. is it possible to remove/replace the carpet without removing the entire dash? I have a dash cap installed so it might not be as easy as it would without it is it possible to just remove the screws on the shifter console and the screws from the lower dash? or is there a trick to it or any other way to do it? TIA

The lower portion on the dash that contains the radio and shifter can be removed on the 1979. Page 3-L8 shows the parts breakdown. There is still the metal section underneath that has a couple of bolts that attach it to the tunnel. Removing the plastic part will make it easier.

No need to remove the upper dash. Just the lower part around the shift lever. To get that however, you will also need to remove the glove box, the steering column surround and stereo surround (face panel). Remove the two side kick panels and dead pedal as well. The carpet slides up under the center stack and heater core box and can take some finagling to work it out or back in.
