Wasp's Nest in a Can needs carpet!

This is a 1985 GSL.

Well, the project began with removing the old carpet, which I think had never been cleaned since the day it was purchased. I soon got bent over the hood of this mighty car and bought a full set of rugs from Victoria Secret..er, British.

My questions are, 1) Must the dash be removed to take out the final piece of carpet underneath? and 2) Must the dash be removed to put in the new one? Anyone who has delt with this horrifying ordeal that can give me tips, please do.

Thanks,

George

yes the dash has to be removed to install or remove with carpet. if you wanted to skip the ordeal of removing the dash, then you could make a slit in the carpet (the part of it that goes under the heater box) and then just slide the ends in on either side. thats probably the easiest method as removing/reinstalling the dash is a real pita

No you don't have to remove the dash. There is a u-shaped bracket inside the console that holds it too the floor. It is not easy to get out, but it is less work than the dash. You just have to fight the carpet a bit more this way. Shifter needs to come out also.
