Carpet removal installation

OK... some of you may know that I'm big on making sure the mechanical aspects of my car are perfect, HOWEVER, i've never given much thought to the cosmetics of the interior as long as it was clean and all the gauges were working and mounted perfectly.

Well, zkeller of the 3rd gen gang has embarrased me into THINKING about getting new carpet. (the carpet isn't THAT bad, its not worn out, but it is stained in several places and sun faded in others)

So i've broken under the pressure and have decided to get new carpet. HOWEVER.. I was eyeballing the carpet the other night and noted that it looks like you gotta take the whole GD dash out to get the carpet out of the car..... My soluition right now is to just hack it out and cut the new carpet in the center console area so that i don't have to remove the dash...

Looking for input on how you other goons have done this and where you got the carpet.

There is pre-molded carpet available for our cars. I saw it last on ebay, but victoria british might have it in their catalogs as well. I'd just do a search for "rx7 carpet" on yahoo and see.

u have to remove the dash if you don't want to cut the carpet...there is a small barb that sticks up from under the heater core the keeps the carpet in position...if you just cut the carpet on the sides it will come out...if you want to do it the right way then just remove the dash..I've got dash removal down to 30min...its your choice now as to what road to go down!

i actually just did this. Without taking out the dash you have to cut the carpet out around the heater core in the middle of the dash. Also all the padding is a pita to rip off the bottom of the carpet. I took my dash out in about an hour without much struggle at all. Removing is the easy part, now installing is kind of a bitch because the e-brake handle and shifter are in the way. If you dont remove the dash dont worry about it, my buddy didnt on his and you cant tell where he cut his carpet at. All he did was remove the dash bolts and tilt the dash upwards and cut the carpet underneath(Its all hidden under the dash anyway). I hope this helps, good luck later, kevin.

I went through three vendors for carpets, and they were ALL crap! I found an easy , and cheap, fix if your problem is just over stained - no tears or wear holes.

I removed the carpet and took it to a detail company. For fifty bucks, they cleaned out all the stains and re-dyed it. I put it back in, and reassembled the interior and it looks as good as any new carpet. And, more importantly, it fits perfectly.

I can send you some pix if you'd like to see.

After all the F&*(&king wiring, stereo installation, gauge installation, haltech wiring, boost controller installation and boost line running..... I'll be goddamned if i'm removing the dash

I think a pair of freakin good, black, floormats just might solve my problem...

Zkeller can shut his 3rd gen driving, no college loan having to pay, funny loking fingered *** the hell up if he don't like it or i'll break my size 13 off in his ***.

WHO THE **** designed a car that you have to take the friggin dash out to put the carpet in.... goddam japs... its revenge... revenge for hiroshima and nagasaki i tell ya.......

*U^&*(^*&^@#*()$&*()Q&@*()&*(#&$(*&%^$$@@#$%^&*(() )(&^%$#$#^^#%^*&$^#&*( AAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

how the hell did i get addicted to these rotten bastards in the first place.

sorry, , just venting... I've been trying to get my BNR stage III to bolt up all night and I keep running into problems..... this time my dumb *** ordered straing an-4 fillings instead of 90 degree fittings for the oil supply line and that aint gonna cut it...... tomorrow I have to go grind one of the compressor housing "lumps" down a bit so that the damn thing will clear the LIM. Long story that i will post after i get the thing runnin cause i don't want to judge this turbo before I see if it was worth the hassle or not.

long story short... bryan used a garret center section on my turbo, and there have been a few minor fabrication issues that I have had to go through to get it to fit to the stock components..

I've been wanting a new carpet for some time. I think www.accmats.com has some good selections. Although, i fear the dash removal, i think eventually it will be necessary in order replace the heater core. Which is still stock. It's only a matter or time before it goes.

i found a killer deal in a salvage yard i got a driveshaft and all new interior; electric motors for the windows, power locks, carpet, that damed pesky windshield wiper switch, and a pile of other things for 75$ . i have no idea what that car was doing there but it was a sad sight,....... but a good deal.
