rxfc3s SA :)
Hi Guys,
Thought I would start a thread on my latest ride, a 1981 series 2 rx7
Long story short, guy lost his job and needed some cash so unfortunately had to sell his rx7, which I purchased from him for $2200
I have reciepts for 5k worth of work done in Sept 2010 at Jazmac which included new ASE oil cooler, new braided oil cooler hoses, a 2.5 (?) inch extractor system with two resonators and rota flow muffler (it sounds awesome) and the nikki was overhauled.
The best bit however, is the motor.
It been rebuilt with a large extend port and only has 250kms on it. The poor guy didn't even get to run it in before he pranged it (broke the front control arm)
I felt for him, going through a rough time in his life, so passed on a friends number who works for a job recruitment centre and told him to give them a shot, which he was very appreciative about.
When I first purchased it:
Over the last month or so, I've swapped everything Series 3 (FB) related on to this car, front struts and rear diff/axle setup and am now running the standard S3 rims which is the look I want. Have also swapped the S3 interior in and swapped the rear hatch glass for a '79 item to make it look a bit cleaner
Heres a video of it running - sorry for the side view.
(Runs better now I've put 1000kms on it )
rx7 warmup idle
Future plans are to convert it to manual and look into some 4.11 gears. I also have a modified Nikki ready to put on. Also planning on a respray down the track
Here's my other ride when I wanna go fast

Yeah the car is an 81 rx7 (series 2), I'm fairly confident they came in yellow here in Aus
I've already carried out some minor work in the engine bay, fitted a fresh battery, fixed a small leak at the oil filler breather and fixed a small leak at the OMP.
Can't fault the car mechanically otherwise, it runs sweet and revs out cleanly past 7k. It is begging to be converted to manual and taken to a few club sprints hehe
This is the interior I have swapped in. Top of the dash is in perfect condition as it has had a dash mat on it its whole life I'm also grabbing the pedals etc for when I convert it to manual
This is the site for the Nikki carb I purchased from a forum member here in Aus. Perhaps the same as the Sterling Metal Works unit bar a few things.
I have the opportunity to do back to back dyno runs for stock vs modified nikki in a few weeks. Will post results

Ok time for an update
- Replaced the front brake pads as they were close to metal on metal
- Finished running the motor in, the car now sees red line on a daily basis with no issues
- Fixed heater core as it was weeping a bit, the heater works so damn good in these cars!
- Bought another modified nikki from some one here in Aus, chucked it on without fiddling too much with it and it seemed to be worse for the car (power/torque wise) Sure it would've helped if I had messed around with jet sizes etc, it was more of a stock vs modified nikki back to back test. Not sure i'll swap the modified nikki back on as the car drives and performs great (for an auto)
- Replaced rear hatch glass with a '79 for a cleaner look plus less weight
(85kw) 115hp @ the wheels, stock nikki, 3 speed auto, Large Extend Port (street port)
BLUE LINE - stock NIKKI
RED LINE - modified NIKKI
short vid of how it runs when warmed up and run in (now with 2000kms on motor)

Still wanting to do a manual conversion eventually as well
Cheers

I think the power is about right for an auto large street port seeing as a manual 13b extend port with a 48ida webber put out 99kw (134hp) @ the wheels 2 weeks earlier on this same dyno.
