Pinstriping Thoughts

Now that my car is getting close closer to be done with paint I wanted to start thinking about what I want for pinstriping.

My car had the dealer installed pinstriping. It was (from top to bottom) thick brown, thin silver, thin brown, thick silver. I really like the look of the original and think it looks good with the light beige paint. I'll get a closeup of the front fender detail later this week.

Here is a closeup:

If anyone has any ideas on what would look good, let me know.

My 83 has two, one dark red/maroon, and one silver-ish. I like the two better then the pic with the four. I am a big fan if the pinstriping, and I think you should include it one way or another. Just my $.02

Looks like you have a brown interior? Something accenting that while complimenting the Beige would work best IMO. Tie things together. Also, I think less is more. so I'd keep em simple and go with the standard two stripes. Fix that dent in the rear while you're at it. For a couple hundred bucks, a paintless dent removal guy will go over your entire car. Plus, if you ever go to sell it, you normally can more than get your money back.

i have the dealer striping on my 79 that I would love to see replicated. from my searching this is the only car with it still alive so it makes it real special.

here is the f/s add from when I bought it
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-rx-7-1979-1985-vehicles-109/1979-sa-150k-45k-rebuild-new-paint-great-engine-$3500-908817/
It was the only set of pictures I could link for some reason Like I said, I would love those stripes replicated on another vehicle since I am painting it and they will be lost forever.

dream, those stripes look good on an SA but I think it would be too much on an FB.

Banzia, I do have the brown interior and being an '84 it has all the bright silver accents. (the dent is fixed)

So a simple pinstripe with brown and silver?

At one point I thought about having a rotary symbol in the rear quarters that was about an inch tall at one point. Thoughts?

If you go with the rotary symbol I would make it seperate from the pinstripe so you could remove it later on if you get tired of it. Maybe put it on the b pillar. 2 cents.....

Those are a unique set of graphics. Probably aftermarket of some sort that the dealer purchased and applied themselves. I also had a local dealer who stocked and applied non factory stripes to their Rx-7s. I did not buy my car from them but i did buy a set of the decals and put them on my car about 2 weeks after I bought it. I still have some un used end pieces and the original packaging. There never was any manufacturers information and 25 some years later when I was refreashing the car, I had the same dilemma.

I went to a local automotive trim and stripe shop and they just took a picture of my old stripe and was able download it into their computer to produce a new set just like the originals. You don't have to lose your stripes and can in fact save them digitally to be reproduced again and again in whatever colors.

Whatever colors please you. Yours is the only opinion that really matters any ways. Ask a wife/grilfriend, they spend their lives color coordinating and accessorizing their ensembles. on the dent too!

Hey Chris my beige se has the factory pin stripes in brown. You can see some pics as I am selling it on ebay. The factory stripping is sweet and I've never been big on pinstripes.

I've been looking at possible color choices and I'm now thinking Mazda light blue (color used for under hood accessories) and silver

I am doing the imsa SA22C style stripes on mine. Thats how I decided my paint setup. I am doing the car in a dark blue (lotus midnight blue) with high gloss. then I have a guy (myboyblue from norotors.com) making deals, the outside/bottom stripes in matte black, and the inside/top stripes will be matte dark gray. That in addition to the widebody I am making will go a long way. Ultimately it is up to you on how you do it. Like I said I designed mine from the ground upso that I know what to buy and what to put off on the build list. first thing is to get the car streetable then later wide body then paint. although the wb is 2 years off on the list of things to do and paint is 3-4 years away.

Large projects like that take a ton of time.
