OK, so it's not an RX-7, but I just bought a cool car I think you guys will like!!
Here's what happens to VW bugs when you Wankel them:

Not a nice thing to do to that pristine survivor of yours.
Better to stick with the air cooled flat 4, a technological wonder in its own right.
As fate would have it, this morning, on my way into work in Atlanta on I85, I found myself cruising at 80 MPH with an old flat screen Superbeatle, probably a 71 or 72. Red, old paint, a little ragged but still with all its body parts.
And that bug was in great mechanical shape, cruising in the left lanes with the big boys down the interstate on those skinny 165/15 inch tires. Owner had a headset on, casually looking for open real estate up ahead. The flat 4 has all you need for that little car.
And yes, go with the stock big wheel. So cool.

^^That was pretty freaking hilarious!!
Nice bug! I've always appreciated them for their simplicity. If I ever get the 40x60 pole barn built an old beetle will be one of the occupants.

I too am in love with rotaries and have a had a long time affair with pre 1966 VW Type1. recently I took one very rusty 1962 VW body and a 12a rotary and made a little VW roadster out of the two so the Axis powers are joined together once again.lol.
Great looking VW and I like the Empi steering wheel. I am running an old VDM steering wheel on mine and it throws people off al the time. Most think I made the steering wheel.
