Yep, the top is the low coolant sensor, although I don't know what the other is - likely smog something or other. The one for the gauge as you asked is by the oil pressure sensor on the rear iron. It has either a single spade or single bullet connector (they changed it at some point, although I don't recall when). Halfway up on the gauge sounds a little high, but it's an old gauge with old wires so it's probably drifted a bit over time. If you're concerned just put a infrared thermometer on it quick after a drive, that's what I used to do anyhow.
Interesting enough, I've found yet another coolant sensor, this time on the lower driver side corner. I discovered it when organizing some parts today. Here's a couple photos.
While I have far less exposure to rotary vehicles than probably all of you, in my limited experience I have not seen this. Perhaps it's common, perhaps not, I don't know. It looks similar to the one in the t-stat housing but is a slightly different design. Curious if anyone else has seen it before.
And sorry to keep dragging this on; curiosity killed the cat I suppose...

Not dragging it out! I want to know where these things are too!
My first car was a 1980 rx7 anniversary x edition just like this! I have been having a hard time finding one in good shape. I am in the market for one and would love it if you contacted me if you ever wanted to sell yours. If anyone else in this thread knows of someone selling a solid one let me know please I'm not looking for a project, I'd like one in great shape like this one.
I’ll let you know Luke but I’m thinking this will be a long termer! I really love it.

I 100% understand, but It doesn't hurt to try and pry on a heartstring with an old photo of me and my old car! haha. If you change your mind I am itching to get another one as my weekend driver.
Thanks,
Luke Anker 16 year old me thinking i was the coolest kid on the planet.

Hey there, so it's been a couple years now have you considered selling? Still no luck on my end finding an AE and my young adulthood is still pestering me to find another one to replace my aging state of mind.

If your low coolant sensor's acting up, it might just need a clean or swap. Check the wiring and coolant level first. If it's busted, you can grab a new one online or at a car parts store easy.
Well...... I wasn't. No seatbelt didn't help my situation. I obviously lived but the doctors told my family that I might not make it through the first night.
