In 1988 Mazda also celebrated the first 10 years production of the RX-7 with a special, limited edition turbo model. This tenth anniversary model RX-7 came with many of the options found on the other cars standard, including air conditioning, power steering, power windows, power door locks, electric side mirrors, electric sliding sunroof, cruise control, premium 120 watt stereo system, security system, black leather seats, and well as including a special Momo shifter, bronze tinted windows and leather wrapped steering wheel. The secruity system also included ultra sonic motion detectors, not found on any other model RX-7 before or since.

The 10th AE was exclusively available in a monochromatic crystal white finish. The body trim, tail lamp trim and the standard 16 inch alloy wheels were white. The monochromatic paint scheme set the 10th anniversary apart from any other RX-7. Production was limited to 1500.
