My SE----faster than I thought?
My friend has a modified Ford Probe GT that he recently took to the race track. His best run was a 15.8 seconds, and in that run he complained that his clutch was slipping. I just raced him 3 times on one of our local roads here with my 84SE. Two out of three we were neck and neck, and the 3rd race I actually won. We did not race more than a 1/4 mile however, and best of all, his clutch did not slip at all-----no excuses for him. Anyway, I was pretty pleased because he and another guy said I wouldn't stand a chance.

A stock SE has been documented to run an average 1/4 mile @ 15.9. But keep in mind that 1/4 mile times drop, sometimes significantly, due to wear and tear on the motor. My SE has 123,000 miles on it. I have the S5 intake, pineapple racing inserts, RB race exhuast, and K&N cone filter. I would say that with these mods and considering the mileage on the car, I would probably run close to the stock 1/4 mile time.

No offense taken. I agree that 15.8 is pretty slow. With keeping my car NA I will be happy some day to dip down into the mid or low 14's at the track. This won't happen without porting though. That's a winter project perhaps.

I ran my car at the track yesterday. I did 5 autocross runs then about 10 drag strip runs.
My best was 15.0 at 92 miles an hour. That is with all the mods in my sig. Granted it was a hot humid day, 90 degrees and very muggy but is near sea level. It did not occur to me at the time to air down my autocross tires (NT01s set at 35 psi).
I would either spin hard or bog down. A six puck and 9lb flywheel isn't exactly the ideal setup. I figure on a cooler night with the tires aired down I could pull off high 14's. Still not very fast.

I think that if you could pull off a high 14 run, that's pretty darn good. I think that in our cars, a 14-15 second 1/4 mile feels quicker than other cars running the same time. I drove my friends Probe, and it actually felt slower even though we were pretty even when we raced.

It was a hot muggy day and I wish I had thought to air down my tires but I had just come off the AutoX and the strip was closing down soon. The tires were still aired up to 35psi from the AutoX. The guys from the $2009 challenge that were running AutoX tires were getting their best results from about 12-15 psi.
I have the time slip here:
R/T .573
60 2.399
330 6.404
1/8 9.764
MPH 74.10
1000 12.635
1/4 15.098
MPH 92.44
This is a body based off of a Beatle Andy built for under $2009. Ended up with a best of 10.3

Are you saying that you ran a 14.6 1/4 mile with only 140whp?

Sorry no, 139whp...
on street tires I never run bleow 20psi. I felt like I was fastest with around 22 in the rear tires. I run 15 in the drag slicks, but i have not used them on the track yet.
