85 GSL-SE with 157K on the clock got it almoust 1 year ago. It bin sitting in the guys drive way for 7 years got for 500 bucks it had $4500 worth of receipts in the glove compartment rebuilt trans, replaced all the weather striping a racing beat SP full dual exhaust on it and also the motor was rebuilt not long before that. Got it home put tires on it new baterry fuel pump and injectors cleaned the gas tank and it started right up.
So far I have 1100 in the whole car including the initial purchase needs a paint job becouse the clear is coming of one side of it but for 500 I can live with it.

83 gsl - 300$
Drunk lady put it in a ditch and bent the **** out of the pass control arm.
Then she proceeded to drive it home on the donut spare with no tire
The rim was ground down almost to the valve stem.

ive got her fixed now and it runs AWESOME.
Not a puff of smoke

I paid $1400 for my 1980, in 1989.

Untold thousands in basic maintenance, rebuilds, and restoration over the years, but many 10's of thousands of reliable miles in those years.

I paid $11,000 for my 1985 in 1985! Still have it, just turned 72,000 miles today, still all original including the paint and floor mats with the RX7 logo on them! Never seen snow, never been a daily driver, bought it just for fun!

I'm jealous of the original owners. One of these days I'll buy myself an RX-8 sight-unseen and drive it around for the next 25 years, keeping it clean and stock. Then I can be one of the awesome original owners.

Except, I don't know if I could resist installing an Esmeril Racing turbo kit.

my current daily driver is a replacement for the '75 808 i wrecked back in '05. it's an '84 base with the 13b i had in the 808. i gave $50 for the 7 without an engine. had it for about 2 yrs now. only thing i've had to replace on it since i started driving it is the front brake pads and the idler arm bushings. still plan on doing the disc rear conversion one of these days.

1. $250, 1978 SA. Bought off ebay, later sold it for same price. Too dryrotted.

2. $900, 1978 SA. All original, no carpet. Had a little too much cancer for me. Used the 16xxx rebuilt motor for car 3

3. $700, blown motor, new paint, new interior, back seats. 1982 GS.

paid 2200 for a 2nd owner, always-garaged-never-seen-snow '79 SA in 06/07. I think it was worth it, as rust-free cars are rare in the great white north...

1500 CND for it and a parts car. Got it on the road for roughly another 1500 and then around 1000 for a new RB exhaust.

So now I have a rust free 85 fb with 148xxx kms on it (92xxx miles)

'83 base $1500 in '93 (sold) originally bought as a winter beater but liked it so much kept it and turn it into the summer car.
'85 gsl-se $2500 in '95 (sold) in 2000 for $2100 bought this car and had money left for a down payment on a truck after totaling my 68 Porsche 912 and getting a check from the insurance company.
'79 base $500 2001 150k on the odo now my solo /track car over $10000 invested since in my"$500" car. I did drive it home it started right up and ran pretty good it was going to be a parts car but the body woundup being in better shape than the car I was driving at the time.
'83 gs free parts car striped and gave to someone else for the rad support. lots of rot.
'89 gtu got it in a trade with a '99 Miata for my '99 Miata sport package.
sold both cars $2800 for the gtu with a full cage ,shocks , and extra wheels and tires. $9800 last spring with 90k on the odo, it was my DD use the money to buy a speed 3.

Bought my 1985 GSL-SE with 53k miles from the original owner in 1994 for $4500.00 (he threw in the bra, car cover and a couple hundred in new parts with it.) Plus he just had the dealer install a new FMOC on it the month before. Was my daily driver from 1994 to 2006, now it's "semi-retired" and is a dry road and sunny skies car.
