High Mileage 7's
I had one go until 37 miles shy of 275,000. It was my '84, it was given to me with 257K on it and I drove it a couple years daily. I replaced the original clutch and threw in an aluminum flywheel while I was in there and it spit an apex seal a week later.
Damn after hearing all these numbers mine doesnt seem like a lot at all. I got 239,XXX before it blew one apex seal. Its runs just wont hold an idle, got a rebuild SP,carb kit, exhaust ect ect in progress.

Yeah, the N/A 12a is bulletproof.
The turbo 13b got more fragile as they pushed the limits further in the later models. Stock 3rd gens typically lose their engines pretty quick.

Original 12A in my 83 was warped due to excessive overheating at 153K. I bought the car that way and a used 84 12A to put in her. Not sure on the mileage there but it blew an apex seal after 4 years. I only put about 44K on that engine because the chassis was at 197K. I spliced her a few months ago with an 82 that had 148K on her. She's still going strong with the donor organs. I kept the original motor and tranny (which is still good) in order to get matching #'s on her again one day...Maybe I'll rebuild that 84 12A with the blown apex. Hmmm....another day, another project. LOL
I only overrevved it a bunch of times and pegged the temp gauge about six or seven times when the heater hose would blow out or the radiator end tanks would pop, so it should have lasted a bunch longer
It sometimes would use coolant when cold, but sometimes not.The weekend before it died I was running it about 7-8k around the rallycross course, letting off a bunch to keep it below 8k! It also boiled over and ran funny on the way home. It led a hard life.
Oh - and no dowel pin leakage despite having the beehive oil cooler.
My friend's '79 had 60k on a MANA rebuild when that let go. From what I understand, that is remarkably long for a MANA
It has a Series 3 12A in it now with some "goodies"...
Got my car about 6 months ago at 145k now its has 147k and is still going good doing DD and autocross duty. and it has a turbo kit in the works. Im confident that it will hit over 200k even with the boost and still doing autox's. But Both are close to my house.
