High Mileage 7's
Who's got the high mileage champ on this board? My '85 FB is just turning 100,000 miles and I am interested in hearing how long I have before I start to experience the need for a rebuild. Who's got high miles going for them?

a lot of guys have higher mileage than me, but my 85 S is at 162K
My 84 SE has 168k on the clock.
search. theres people on here who have hit 500k on the stock motor. its all about how you treat it and routine maintenance.
my gsl-se has 406k miles on it. nothing major done to it.
406K!! wow! do you have a pic of the odometer? that would be neat to see!
my 84 gs 12a has 60,000 on it, only 55,000 when i got it ( my grand parents to grat care of it.)
178,000 miles, 12A with dowel pin oil leak...still stock, unopened, slight smoke at start-up, goes away in 5 minutes, passed inspection, idles at 550 RPM, revs to 7600 rpm, dyno'd at 7200 rpm steady state, still OK, I reckon, gets 17.5 mpg with unrebuilt Nikki carb and stock exhaust... ;)
 |
ive got a 79 GS 91,xxx miles, original motor, pulls nicely to 6k in 4th, and got 25mpg last trip....
one of my friends from high school has a gsl-se with 251k on it, trans has been rebuilt but thats it.... |
85 GS 215k miles. Meets CA emissions requirements....for now, lol.

196k km
Not bad for an '84, but I've seen higher. My friend Joel's '83 is over 220k km. Jon |
100,000 miles is young for a first gen, I've only had one below that, my white 84 GSL, which had 82,000 when I got it a couple years ago and is now pegging 127,000. The others:
The brown 85 GLS, 178,000 (retired, good engine) The tan 84 GSL, 148,000 (retired, good engine) The silver 85 GSL, 106,000 (the future, great engine) When I first got into RX7s about 7 years ago, I figured I'd be having to rebuild an engine, probably sooner than later, but it hasn't happened yet and I'm guessing it probably never will. My friend Mike has 240,000+ on his 85 GS(L) and it runs great, still on the original engine. Ray |
mines is at about 170k miles, over heated, still racing the same motor in 100 degree weather redline and racing with teh temp needle in the middle of the gauge...yea...im abusive but for some reason its still so strong. na 13b's are strong, but my 12a freakin bullet proof.

12a 224K 13b 145k at 130psi on the compression check

84 GS ~147,000 miles laying rubber in 3rd gear :)
151K original motor and tranny. Perfect compression and still loves to be revved
just broke 201k on my 82.. no major work cept the clutch, runs like a champ, not even smoke on starting as far as i see and am told.
212,000 miles on untouched engine and racing most weekends. This is also my daily driver, and I usually drive it quite hard...
I got 242K on my GSL-SE. Untouched engine and transmission, but a lot of the other stuff has been fixed at some point or another. Before I started driving it last year, it had pretty much been used solely as a commuter since it was bought in '85 and has been totally babied...
184k on my 84 GSL, as I bought it. Engine runs extremely well.
my 12a has 186k on the clock, and i just ran it on the dyno for the 07-07-07 meet in savannah...
Just clocked 140,000 miles on my 82 GS, dowel pin leak and slight smoke at start-up, but still runs great.
