Gas Prices
Here we go again, spring is here and the gas is rising like it did in 2008. Our rotaries do not get the best mileage and with gas possibly going over 4.00 a gallon how often do you all plan to drive your Rx7's? I have been driving mine once a week for the last month since the weather got better here. If gas goes over 4 bucks again I dont know how often I will be driving it. I have two cars and to operate both during these high fuel times is gonna hit the wallet. It just plain sucks that gas cant stabalize and settle at a set amount, instead of being like a stock ticker with prices jumping all over the place. I hope someday we can all elect politicians who will stop pandering to the big corperations and start putting us people first.

Eh, when my RX-7 is running it gets far better fuel economy than my VW. RX-7 gets about 22-23mpg and the VW is getting about 19, and the VW doesn't even have the 93 octane swilling turbo engine yet. Gotta love AWD and brick-like aerodynamics and gearing that cruises at 4000 on the highway.
But the VW has weatherstripping, and you can hear the radio over the trans and diff and exhaust, and it can run without blowing all the coolant onto the windshield, so I drive it instead.
Basically, I don't let it bother me. $500 a month in fuel is still cheaper than a car payment plus full coverage, and new cars still need fuel too.

Like PJ says, the math is simple.
Buy a well tuned FB for $1,500 and pay $4.00 for gas, while getting around 20 mpg or better (I get 22-23 mpg). As a bonus you can forgo comprehensive insurance and reduce your repair costs to near $0.00 by doing the work yourself.
Or you can buy a newer more fuel efficient vehicle for $10,000 - $20,000, boosting your gas mileage to 25-30 mpg while paying the same $4.00 for gas (more if you need premium; a used Prius will cost you $20,000).
You can buy a lot of gas with the $10,000 - $15,000 you save on the FB and have a lot more fun using it up.
So the solution is: Make the FB your DD.

I don't have time currently (i'm at lunch at work) to delve into the myriad of reasons that gas prices continue to climb. Suck it up. There is very little that politicians can do to reverse the trend.

Instead of invading countries and then pouring money into building them back up we should be taking over their resources to pay off our war debts. Our top dogs in power are bought and sold Dem or Repub no side does better. We need a douching off our goverment and a revolution to get these leaching mongrels out of office. Also all the cap and trade crap on Wall street has to stop too.

^ Or just drill on our own ground? Democrats dont like that idea though. I remember one of Obamas advisers said he wouldnt mind gas at $5+ / gallon. Funny though, I doubt he pays for most of his fuel nor does he make under $50,000 / year.
Its at 3.84 for the cheap stuff where I live in NY, and 93 is 4.09.
Im not happy. I have to pick up another job as school bills start in june.

LOL, I work in the oil refinery business. I do API inspections on the pressure vessel required to make gas, and the more they charge for gas, the more money they have to spend on inspections and repairs. Therefore, the more it is, the more I get paid
So what do I do when gas is high? I work more, the money is better, but I do drive the hell outta my car every chance I get.

Quit whining. I wish gas only cost 4 bucks a gallon.
I live in The Netherlands.
See the recent gas prices list:
Still think you're paying a lot of money for your gas?? I spend around 600 dollars a month on gas alone getting to work!

A 12A FB in good tune and common maintenance upgrades should be able to see 25mpg. With some tweaks I could get 27mpg on a regular basis, 30mpg with a somewhat obnoxious exhaust.
And then there was the shining moment when everything was right and I got 33mpg... people still don't believe that

my 1958 Tr3, has no safety equipment, skinny tires, a small engine, and even though its got carburetors, it gets much better mileage around town than anything else i own, its mid 20's mpg, everything else is about 18.
as the fellow from the netherlands pointed out, $4/gal is still cheaper than the rest of the world, enjoy it while this is still true

Fueling up the VW today. I saw that 92 was at $3.909, and my first thought was that I can't use that in the VW because it has 4.11:1 final drive, it's the RX-7 that is 3.909:1, and I was wondering if the difference would be okay or if the center diff would throw a fit with the wrong ratio fuel in it.
Then I realized that I've really been working too hard and not getting enough sleep.
(kinda like the time my alarm clock went off, and i tried to answer the phone, which did not work, then i realized it was the alarm clock, so I went over to the VCR and tried to figure out how to get it to stop making noise...)

It would be interesting to see a pay scale chart as well,(I'm too drunk and tired to try find one right now) the dollar is not = everywhere in the world. If you're working for $7.75 hr. and paying 3.75 gal. things are not so great. Then again, there is probably good reason for sights like this...

Times I have run my 80 emissions-stripped & with headers on the exact same engine build, I consistently saw about 3mpg increase in average mileage. Smog gear back on, no other changes, the 3 mpg goes away.
So in a very real sense, the smog equipment on an 80 costs 3 mpg, or 15% of base economy, to operate.
Regular 87 gas at my local Mobil this AM was $4.07/gal. Was $3.99 on Monday.

NEVER USE THE MINUTE LINES BETWEEN LONGITUDES TO MEASURE YOUR MILES! We had so many people have grief on the test over that.

I have a 100 mile a day commute!! Most of the time I drive my 2010 Subaru WRX. Sometimes I drive my old school Suburban just to keep miles off.
This week kinda is bittersweet! My wife only drives about 5 miles a day.
We have swapped cars! Now she has a turbocharged, intercooled all wheel drive road rocket.
I now drive a 2010 Prius to work!!
It all boiled down to this:
Suburban $24.31 per day ($486.18 per month)
Subaru $15.91 per day ($318.20 per month)
Prius $6.61 per day ($132.20 per month)
It is $354 a month cheaper in Gas to drive the Prius!! Hell that is roughly what the monthly payment is on that car!

also on my SA, the idle mixture had a really big impact on MPG, tune the idle really lean and mileage got better, best ever was 25, average was 22-24. tune the idle rich and it'll get 18 though
its funny the SA got better mileage than the FBs, those were always in the 20-22 area
