Gas Prices
I didnt buy my rx7 for mileage. I bought it because it I get personal satisfaction driving it around.
Now, my Neon is a different story. I get 30+ mpg with it and right now I am extremely happy I do.
Takes damn near $50 to fill it though.
I figure $.13 / mile at 3.85/gal.

meh.... I paid 10k for fuel in 2008 when the CFTC screwed everyone over on gas speculation. I was paying $4.75 a gallon when I was filling my 13 gallon turbo FB up 3-4 times weekly.
Now I ride the bus for free and leave the turbo FB under a car cover in the driveway, if I'm lucky I can remove the cover and look at it once or twice a month for free.
So happy to not pay insurance or gas in the last year!!!! Now we just need the worlds supply of oil to run out and things will be fine.

Annual "pizza run" meet today. 207 miles, 9.010 gallons, $37.83... Totally worth it.
22.97MPG with about a quarter of the driving being near-WOT canyon climbing, chasing FC's and FD's.
Went well, I thought.

I drive a sports car, so I consider the fluctuating price of gas to be the cost of having fun. If it was that big of a deal to pay for gas I`d sell the RX-7 and just drive the Sunfire year round. If it`s too much, the park the car and ride a bike. Your heart will thank you.
Perspective is where everyone has to put it. If you put 10 or 15k on your rx7 during the year, you will consume a lot of fuel. HOWEVER, please try to compare it to (as previously stated) buying a new car that gets 35 or 40 mpg. Say this new car is 24,000 bucks and gets DOUBLE the gas mileage.
At 4.00 bucks a gallon you could drive your rx7(at 20mpg avg) 120,000 miles and this would equal the price of that new car. 10-15k a year???? well then you just made it another 8-10 years roughly. This doesnt include maintenance, but neither does the 24 grand you just paid for the new thing you bought in haste lol.
To equal out you would have to own the new car for over the 8-10 years, probably something like 15 years to start making money back. That 40 a gallon would kick in around then I suppose...but I also suppose it may not get 40 a gallon anymore. When your payments are done after 5 years youve spent 24k plus the 10k or so to go the 5 years as far as gas goes.
who the hell would want to stop driving their 7 and do this?

Eh, part of the reason gas mileage isn't as good as it should be is because of emissions... seriously. With all the craze on getting C02 manufacturers are hurting the power and efficiency of these newer engines. GDI technology has the potential to get gobs of power out of itty bitty engines, but because of the whole government pressure on reducing C02 numbers it hurts the engine's ability... not to mention these things are spitting out N0X like no other, because they care only about C02 right now and thus have no reason to care about reducing the other gases...
I bought a '04 4Runner Sport Edition, V8 4WD a couple months ago... 23 gallon tank and my commute is so short (less than a mile or so from work and less than 10 anywhere I need to go most of the time) my gas mileage has been hovering around 12.5-13mpg... thankfully I have enough disposable income to not worry too much about the fact I am going through gas like a race car...
Oh, by the way I'm still alive!
