Fuel strainer and cut valve
Can anyone help me find a fuel tank strainer and cut valve for my 84 gslse. Is there a substitute possibly? The old strainer screen is in pieces and rotten and all in the tank. This is probably problem that u all suggested about trash being picked up because I had replaced the fuel filter and the pump and still had the same problem. The
tank looks good. No rust. Some other trash particles were found. I want to replace the cut valve located directly behind the tank so that from the tank to the filter is all new. Thanks for all the info i have been receiving.

Not required, if you buy good reputable gas. You may have to change the filter more often. Fortunately they are clear, so easy to see if it's dirty.
My tank looks like new on the inside, and never had bad gas.

OP has an SE. The strainer is a necessary component as the fuel is initially filtered by it and then a fine cone shaped screen in pump inlet, and then the filter. FI cars are less tolerant of garbage in fuel system than carbed cars. With no strainer to prefilter incoming fuel, the fine screen in pump intake is easily clogged with trash.
Unlike the carb setup with the see thru plastic filter,SE has high pressure metal filter that needs to be removed and drained to inspect contents.
Mazda thought enough to put a strainer on all 1st gen fuel pickups, perhaps one should be in place.
OP,will look for a part# for a replacement strainer i have used on these cars.

Interesting, I didn't know the FI cars had another screen in the pump. I have a friend near by and both his 5 letter cars don't have the screen. I'll have to tell him to rig something up.
