LOL yea just about anything is safer than Wall Street at this point, and Dave, I know what you mean about keeping it plug and play, does make things simpler, but the front cover swap is very easy, have no fear! lol. Just sit the engine on its flywheel the whole time and the thrust bearings will be fine...

Nice Dave, that is very clean, If you remember the pics of what I started with on my T2 swap project it was much much worse than that. Do you have a GSL rear to put in this one?

unfortunatly i do not have a GSL rear for this car. it will be in the works for me to find one as well as a set of LE wheels. i'm picking up a GSL-SE engine for the car this week and will be installing it. i will keep this thread updated with pics of the swap and the progress of it as well. i intend on having the car on the road by thanksgiving. in the mean time before the swap starts this weekend and before i post more pics tonight, here are a couple pics of my sparkling black GSL and of my daughter carving her first pumpkin with her mother:

if you knew how much i paid for it you'd ****. the guy gave me a really great deal. it was carbon locked when i brought it home. some sea foam and atf and some soaking and its free. i need a bunch of things for it but it's essentially drop in and i have some time to get it working properly. as far as the pumpkin goes and having pics, i sure do. here's a pic of the pumpkin as it sits on top of out tv stand:

Personally, I'd swap in the FC engine with that low of miles, then install a 2 barrel wrap around carb. As far as the thrust bearings, as long as you have the engine sitting with the flywheel down, the trust bearings won't shift. It's when one does the swap while the engine is still in the engine bay that the torrington bearings drop.

Congrats on the score, that's one of my favorite colors, along with the gray interior.

well..i would use the FC engine but i sold it..to pay for this SE engine because i wanted to stay true to the FB..a carb'd 13B setup would be super sweet i agree but i'm going to build this car to be my daily driver. i just hope the coolant seals are good. its pretty scaley in the t-stat housing..... the engine came out pretty easialy yesterday. the front chain had to be adjusted and tightened as it came out and since i pulled the engine and trans by myself and didnt have anyone to help brace the engine and help roll the car back etc, the engine ended up shifting and slipping and dented my front valance panel. that pissed me off to say the least. but all in all other than that it went super smooth. here are a couple of the extraction pictures:

the new engine is cleaned up pretty good and awaiting its new gaskets. i am replacing most external gaskets and hoses, belts, t-stat, clutch, etc. the injectors are being sent out to witchhunter today for their cleaning. here is the engine as it sits and just some of the parts i have to put on it this morning before i put the engine and trans in today:

Looks like your making good progress there, pulling engines solo is always fun, reinstalling them solo is even more fun lol. Always seems whenever I'm doing an engine job no one is around and I always do it alone, very awkward haha.
Sucks about the dent, wonder if paintless dent repair would work on that....

Sucks your still having problems with that, I'm surprised no one can help with that, or is everyone's answer just to swap the complete SE harness in.... (won't that create problems with the HVAC controls since the SE has the "logicon" where your GS doesn't?)

no one has given me a definate answer other than remove the dash and swap the SE harness in. not a common swap i guess. i'm not sure what problems will be caused regarding the hvac. perhaps i just wont use the SE plugs for the heater controls and just stick with the manual controls. only push buttons on the GS are for the a/c and the recirculate feature so i might get lucky. i'm searching for the proper SE harness.
