When you are REALLY bored at work.

But if you must know the details its four 15x6.5" wheels welded together. On the wheel balancer at work it has less than .030" runout and a grand total of 14.2" wheel width. (that's really strait for those who don't know). With some used tires thrown on it only needed about 1.75 ounces to balance out (once again that's not a lot of weight for those who don't know).

But more importantly I'm kind of now hunting for a correct "mad maxish" FB I can bolt them to. They don't look the part on my fresh painted RX7.

Huh. It's definitely...something...you'd need an absolutely insane Mad Max type build to make that even potentially kinda work maybe

Wouldn't this cause the axles to flex?

You need a lift and some flares. Rebel flag might complete it.

What would hold the mating surface of the wheels together?

Huh. It's definitely...something...you'd need an absolutely insane Mad Max type build to make that even potentially kinda work maybe

Thought about buying another RX7 just to do that. 60 Gallon barrel in the hatch area as the gas tank. And a 4.0 blown jeep engine sticking out of the hood; with the blower right in your face. For now its fun just to drive it around like that. Makes people break their necks getting a second look.

You need a lift and some flares. Rebel flag might complete it.

And a Lynard Skynard shirt toped with a mullet.

use duct tape and super glue
Like you really welded those rims together, and then put the tires on, or did you weld the rims together with the tires on?
Oh, ok.

Oh, ok.
I nocked the "spokes" out of one steel wheel and welded that rim to another wheel. I then reverse mounted the tire on the inside wheel (it more than likely disturbed the bead of the tire). Then regular mounted the outside tire.

On the balancer it only required 1.5 ounce on one wheel and like 1.25 or something on the other wheel. They roll down the highway at 75mph like you wouldn't know anything was wrong (until you look in your rear view mirrors).

The cool thing is in case of failure in the welds or something catastrophic the inside wheel is all normal. The outside rim and tire are just welded to an existing normal wheel/tire. So if something bad happens the fakey will just roll off and I can keep driving as normal.

I'd almost believe you. If the 1st set turned out so good, why didn't you document the 2nd one with pictures? Everyone loves pictures here.

Pictures of the most mundane **** like upgrading from obscure expensive headlight relays to more common inexpensive ones.

James, thats surely a new look. Were you inspired by the no f%^&ks given RX7 or what?

Won't the inner tire sidewalls rub each other to death?

Inspired by the Ford XA Bat Falcon from The Road Warrior. I've wanted a dually sports car since forever; just never had the time, motivation, ability, extra wheels to do it. All the stars aligned and I had an extra set of wheels so I said f it.

Maybe, they will.... I just drove it home a few times and did a burnout in a parking lot. I don't plan on DD these wheels because my RE71r tires on my regular wheels give MUCH better performance. So I'm not concerned if the tires disintegrate; its just R.I.C.E (Roadwarrior Inspired Cosmetic Equipment).

Ain't much to picture. And I would be ashamed to post my welds on a public forum to get mocked. In my defense I ran out of gas so I just picked up the arc welder and had a go at them. and that's why my welds look like trash. I'll see if I have a picture with no tires on them for you.

Aluminum welds will always suck. It is because Al doesn't conduct heat as well as steel, and it liquifies really soon so all you get is a big blob. Steel gives you a nice little puddle which makes a nice little beed and a pretty weld.

James, are you seriously trying to tell us you welded two wheels together to get the "dually's" you show in the pictures?

I thought this was a joke, but maybe you're crazier than I thought you were.

If so, very cool! Do you think it would make it over to an OGTA meet?

Yeah, its a true "hooky" dually RX7. I drove it back and forth to work for about a week, but I really feel like it will destroy my transmission if I keep it up. They are heavy as sin (Id guess 50#s a wheel) It also rubs the fender flares on the car.

I have the burn out video, but its on my manager's phone. I'll ask him to transfer it over to my phone tomorrow so I can upload it here. d

Now don't poke too much fun at my horrendous welds I made with my stick.

If you like that wait till I'm done with my Porsche. I'm gonna jump back on this ole RX7 and do a twin turbo blow through. If the Nikki can't keep up I'm gonna do either dual nikkis or a hitachi.

But the Porsche is next on the list and I don't like doing more than one project at a time.

I would say I find your lack of burnout disturbing... but that's the whole point of duallies isn't it? To not lose traction.

That wheel hop was quite ferocious wasn't it?!? I thought I broke a U-joint, but it was the right side hopping. The left side was burning just normal.

Like I said its NOT a performance thing, my RE71's do a good enough job sticking to the road.

If those things were straight when you welded them then something is definitely moving when you are trying to do a burnout.
