dash warning lights came on, car continued to work fine
suddenly all the dash warning lights came on, car continued to work fine. I noticed the + battery terminal has hair (oxidation). Removed the battery for charging from a battery charger, it looks like it was very low.
I remember replacing the alternator in 1994.
Is the external (from the alternator) voltage regulator the problem ?

it was the alternator !
I managed to expand a 1/2 hour job into 1 1/2 hours. The professional allotted time is 1/2 hour. -----> $100 labor.
my 1 1/2 hours divided into $100 = $66 an hour
50 weeks times 40 hours a week = 2000 hours
66 times 2000 = $132,000 a year which means for a while, I was earning as much as a fat cat big shot engineer.
