1980 Rx7 No Spark

First off, a J-105 should not have fit on that dizzy. I'm assuming it's being held in by one screw currently? The other issue is that J-105's and J-109's use essentially opposite reluctor signals (although that's not something I am too well versed on. Other's know much more than I concerning that) and so your J-105 is being trigger with 'reversed polarity' from the pickups. This is why if you go DLIDFIS on a 1980 dizzy, you have to swap the polarity of the signal wires compared to most online diagrams. This action will affect timing (I believe it would retard it?) and so that may be why the dizzy has to be cranked so far over. It could also be off a tooth or three, but I'd sort out the ignitor situation first. Try the J-109 again without changing anything else and make sure it's dead, just for good measure.
Also, what you are currently running is SLIDFIS (Single Leading Ignitor...) and is sometimes called 'poor mans direct fire' based on my own past research. It puts more strain (someone correct me if I'm wrong here) on the ignitor and will increase its likelihood of premature failure, although some people have seemingly run setups like this without too much trouble. I believe it is also gives a less powerful spark.
The fast idle may be entirely unrelated to the ignition - probably carb or vac leak related. Your wiring is correct however, it's just a bit of a mess in there as you mentioned.
